She holds her arms out for a hug, which he readily accepts. “What brings you here again so soon?”
“What? A man can’t visit his old friend at the brothel twice in the same week just for fun?” he says, flashing her a grin. But something about his smile seems… off. Brittle. He’s always padded the uglier realities of his life with humor, but tonight the humor seems less like padding and more like a thin porcelain mask that’s been dropped on the floor and then hastily glued back together again.
