Summary
There are no arrows or armor here, just Sebastian's bare hands twisting in the fabric of Anders' robe. His knuckles turn bone white, and he yanks the other man up violently. Anders doesn't make a sound, doesn't blink. It's too much to bear, digs and claws past Sebastian's ribcage right to where his heart beats the rhythm of grief. They've been here before.
"You should've died with her."
Sebastian mourns. Anders doesn't feel much of anything at all.

Summary
Garrett Hawke would have done anything to keep his sister and mother safe upon reaching Kirkwall. He’d failed Carver, and that guilt haunted him every night when he dreamed, the ogre crushing his brother’s chest like so much wet parchment.
So when their Uncle had revealed that not only was the family destitute, the estate long lost, and that their only way into the city was through indentured servitude? He’d have taken anything that kept Bethany away from the Templars.
But of the options Gamlen had managed to orchestrate, he’d clearly assumed Bethany would be the one who’d take up a position at the Blooming Rose.
An AU where Hawke spends his first year at the Rose, and sleeps with everyone he knows - even after the year is up.

Summary
“Shit, you look young.”
“We’re nineteen next month,” Bethany said, letting go of Garrett’s hand. “And we can fight. We came all the way from Lothering, through the darkspawn.”
The elf raised an eyebrow, then looked at him.
“Can you talk, or does your sister not let you get a word in edgeways?”
Garrett Hawke was never meant to be the eldest son, the one responsible for keeping his family safe. That was Carver - until it suddenly wasn’t.
AU where Garrett and Bethany are the twins, and Carver dies fleeing Lothering, forcing a much younger, much more naive Garrett to step up and try to be the hero Kirkwall needs, with very mixed results.

Summary
“Maker’s breath, Hawke, what are you doing here?”
In Ferelden, Hawke helped save the world from the Blight. In Kirkwall, he is an apostate struggling to hide.
He crossed the Waking Sea to be with his family, the guilt of abandoning them in Lothering a stronger driver than fear of the Templars. But Hawke hadn’t reckoned on old friends and enemies in the city, hadn’t been prepared for the way his name would spread. All too soon, he is more a liability than an asset when it comes to keeping his family safe.
The Deep Roads expedition might be enough to protect his family, the money offering more security than Hawke’s presence. If he can survive those bloody tunnels for a second time. If he can keep out of Templar hands.

Summary
Carlo was brought to the world of Thedas - trapped in a forest and found by a Dalish clan. Unable to get home with suspicion cast upon him by many others, he finds he has little to do other than survive. However, he learns that he had been brought to Thedas several weeks before the events of the Conclave: weeks before the events of Inquisition take place.
With the knowledge that he holds, he can either roll along and play things safe, or use what he knows to change things for the better. However, things are much easier said than done - especially in a world like Thedas.

Another fic of the delicious trope: Fenris finds Anders getting brutalized by Templars, except Fenris is dying, already horribly in love with the mage, and learns a secret that Anders didn't want anyone to know again.
Warning: there are feminine terms used for a male character and Fenris doesn't know what trans people are. Tags are likely to change.

Summary
Ever wondered what really forced Hawke into hiding before the events of Inquisition? Well, pull up a chair. It all starts at the beginning.
The battle of Kirkwall has ended.
But after siding with the mages, Hawke has to flee the city, uncertain of her future there. Together with Fenris and Varric, she finds shelter in Denerim under King Alistair’s protection.
The new life seems kind to her, but the skies don’t stay clear for long. Fenris grows distant—he’s clearly keeping something from her, and Hawke is determined to find out what.
But what price comes with knowing? What secrets of the past can a search for peace uncover? And what role will the red lyrium play?
From Kirkwall to Denerim to Minrathous, this is a story of devotion, sacrifice, and overwhelming love.

Summary
The docks were quiet, here at sunset, a brief respite in the chaos of the city. Anders knew what came tomorrow. He knew this wouldn’t last long.
Fenris did too.
“No matter what story is told,” the elf said, voice a low rumble in his chest, “no matter what may happen tomorrow. I am grateful to have known you, friend.”

Summary
This is the story of Kate Enasallen, living her teenage years in Kirkwall during the time of the Champion. She leaves Denerim as a stowaway after the Battle changes her life forever, and through a series of misadventures eventually ends up in Kirkwall and befriending (or not) the usual suspects. But this story is not about them or their shenanigans, it’s about a lost teenager trying to find her place in the world, while also having to survive Kirkwall.
I originally planned to write about Kate living during the time of the Inquisition, but as I figured out her backstory, I fell in love with her wild, younger self, and decided to forego the flashbacks and to give the cheeky, lost girl her own story. Her journey through the Inquisition will be the second part of the series. I am a big fan of Dragon Age 2, so it really was inevitable that we’d end up here…
