There was something in the void around his server.
Xisuma first saw it when he was doing minor patches to Hermitcraft. Gem had mentioned a PVP bug – her sword would pause mid-swing and it’d been the cause of more than a few deaths – and Impulse told him something was going on with his redstone. X had found the breaches in the firewall pretty quickly, and the bugs scuttling through the holes were small and easy to squash.
But the thing drifting through the void was big and faintly Player shaped.

Gem knew Hermitcraft was an accepting place.
It wouldn’t be her home if it wasn’t. And besides, it had enough oddities that her being trans shouldn’t be something to bat an eye at. Doc regularly broke the rules of logic and space, Grian was some monstrosity with too many eyes and too many feathers, Hypno was a god of time, Mumbo Jumbo was apparently a goth icon-the list went on and on. Gem being born a boy seemed pale in comparison. Trivial, even.
At least, that’s what she told herself.

“Flooding in factories, arson, machinery breaking, and threatening letters to Mayor Goodwin written with a typewriter,” X explains as he lays out the correspondence before Gem. “And now, the sulfur you found. There is something happening in this city, yet the mayor won’t listen to me.”
Picking up one letter in the stack of dozens, Gem skims through the writing and grimaces at the threats of overthrowing the mayor. “Is he simply ignoring these threats? Either he’s confident in his position, or he just doesn’t read these letters at all…”
X nods solemnly. “It is both. The mayor is the type of person to not believe the rivers are polluted until they’ve turned black. And that is why, Detective, I need you to get to the bottom of this case.”
In which private detective Gem Tasey embarks on what starts as a normal small job, and it spirals into a case of codes, threats, and domestic terrorism. With a search full of red herrings and wild goose chases, cracking the mystery will be difficult — but at least she has her best friend Pearl Moon and the mayor’s secretary Sullivan Ximenes on her side!

Xisuma is always tired.
Well, in X’s humble opinion, the sleep deprivation came with being a good, competent admin. His job is to (quite literally) make sure all of the hermits were healthy, happy, and not scheming chaos, especially when it came to Grian. Thing is, that also meant updating the firewalls and communicators, making sure that the respawn mechanic was working flawlessly, fixing various bugs that conveniently appeared in the middle of the night…yeah, he should stop talking if he doesn't want others to worry about his health. Point is, he’d do anything to make sure that all his friends were physically and mentally okay.
Which included playing dirty.
