The ultimate crossover; a legend in its own lunchtime! This is definitely a case of 'you had to be there'; a madcap mélange of images from fandom as it was in the early Eighties, long before slash dared to Speak Its Name. A product of our massive excitement at being able to interact with one another, with fan fiction, and with fandom as a whole. In the decades since it was completed a lot of the people mentioned in it have died, three have been accused of unspeakable crimes, and One has even been crowned King. Seen as an artefact, this is now a derelict building with 1970s wallpaper slowly peeling off the walls: it was the exuberance of another time.
DEDICATION
For one good friend of this publication the fun ended rather suddenly in August 1982.
It is to the memory of Anne Lewis, and to the recollection of the good times we shared, that this story is dedicated.

Summary
In the following weeks Katya had scoured every issue of the New York Times for Mattel’s review. She had given up hope after several months with disappointment sitting heavily in her stomach. Mattel apparently had no thoughts on Katya’s food, not enough to even warrant writing anything. It’s worse than knowing Trixie hates her cooking. Then Katya could agree to disagree and get over her stupid schoolgirl crush. She’s no idiot, she knows that that’s what this is. The most persistent crush of her life. It doesn’t help that Trixie is an absolute doll with a figure to die for and a voice that Katya can feel directly between her legs.
It’s fine. She is 48 years old, and she doesn’t need Trixie Mattel’s validation. It’s fine.
Trixie Mattel is the most feared food critic in the country, and Katya will defend her from anybody implying she's a bitch. Except that Trixie actually is a bit of a bitch, and Katya loves it.

“Come in.”
Trixie did as she was told, closing the entryway quietly behind her. It was pure silence as she crossed the wooden plane between the desk. The office was lined with book cases, shelving novels and non-fiction tales in what seemed like fifty different languages. Any free space was taken up by priceless antiques, of which Trixie was sure must have belonged to some royal family. It was lavishness at its finest.
Her boss hadn’t looked up from her writing once, but the sound of Trixie’s distinct footsteps had obviously caused her to smile.
Trixie eased the envelope full of hundred dollar bills on to the desk. Still no reaction.
She took the money out, spreading it in a perfectly straight line that nearly spanned the entire length of the desk. Leaning over to her handbag once more, she grasped a hold of a particular marker. Pulling off the cap between her teeth, she put a strike on every bank note. None of the ink turned black. No matter how many times Trixie analyzed her payment, her heart always raced when she had to do it right in front of her superior.

She didn’t even know why she had taken this job; or why any of them did. They weren’t exactly in love with the idea of staying in decrepit old cabins, spending their long-awaited summer in the middle of the woods trying to repair the place, and then having to take care of a bunch of snotty kids. As Trixie glazed over the car, she didn’t exactly see anyone that fit the camp counselor archetype of a pudgy, smiling girl with acne that sang camp songs in a nasally voice. All she saw were a bunch of high school grads looking for a quick buck, and maybe a secluded spot to have sex.

Gigi starts coughing up flower petals, but she's strangely cagey about it. She won't tell anyone who she's coughing them for or when she started, but then again she barely tells anyone that she has Hanahaki in the first place. Crystal's doing her best to help her from the second she finds out, of course, and with her help and with Gigi knowing who the person is, everything will be fine. Everything will be perfectly fine, as long as Gigi confesses soon and Crystal doesn't allow herself to acknowledge the feelings she has for Gigi, the ones that she's been tucking into the deepest corner of her mind for as long as she's known her.

Even though it hurts a bit, Crystal tells the story of her and Gigi throughout the years.
She misses her. She could reach out again, but after going to her first year of college Gigi wanted to distance herself from her high school friends, so what was the point? She could go to their special spot, an old crooked tree in the woods, but it wouldn't feel the same without Gigi there, so why should she let herself go there? Why should she let herself sit there alone, thinking about the years of them being inseparable?

She inspires art. Everywhere she went, Crystal Methyd inspired the people around her to create—one look at her sent the writers scrambling for a pen and the artists looking for their sketchbooks. She didn’t even try; she was just so uniquely her, so unapologetically distinct, that it sent people scrambling to immortalize her in whatever way they could.
So maybe Gigi was a little bit in love. It was hard not to love Crystal: her voice and its ever-present questioning lilt, her love for the world around her, her flash of bright colors in a world of conformity. Crystal was like creativity personified, but Gigi? Gigi was just her roommate.
