An unpleasant warmth unfurled within her from his mere presence with no bars, no guards, nothing in between them but a cloak and the suffocating night air. Swallowing harshly, she kept her words to a raspy whisper, “We both know I’m who you really want.”
“Oh, is that something we both know, Cockroach?” His head craned sideways, their eyes connecting as a sardonic smirk passed over his mouth. “I thought we both knew tonight was going to end with an eviscerated werewolf and one particularly pesky raven dead as a doornail, but maybe I missed your memo.”
