He had thought that he knew what he was getting himself into when he had taken Edwin aside to dole out his punishment and had offered him freedom through pleasure instead. When he had been refused, he had given him something that matched his transgression; a leash for a leash and one tedious task for another, one that would force him to view the cats individually and recognise their differences.
How naïve he had been to assume that he could ever fathom someone like Edwin. He was made up of so many layers and intricacies that the Cat King was certain that he could spend the rest of his nine lifetimes peeling them back and exploring every inch of them, only to find that he was barely half way.

And this must be some kind of catnip-induced fever dream, because Edwin actually growls, somewhere low in his throat. He pushes up with his deceivingly muscular arms to prop himself onto his elbows until he is nose-to-nose with the Cat King.
"Stop your incessant blathering and put your damned mouth to better use,” he spits, and oh, isn't that a revelation?
Because in their tenuous arrangement, Edwin has taken pleasure, and he has given it, and he has tasted it and asked for it and explored it and analyzed it and cultivated it.
But he has never demanded it.
And in this moment, the Cat King knows he could never deny this man anything, not even if he wanted to.

The Cat King finds himself in a fragile, sex-filled entanglement with the ghost of his dreams. He's willing to take anything Edwin gives him, for as long as he keeps coming back to his bed.
But Edwin always manages to surprise him, because somewhere along the lines, Edwin feels comfortable enough to start making demands.
