You might have guessed already, but let me clarify anyway: This takes place when Cas returns to the bunker in Devil's Bargain and Dean is an ass again (sorry, but he is!) when he learns what happened. I took that, along with my frustration about how things went down, and got into Cas' head to see what he thought about it all. Enjoy!

He didn’t mean to piss Gabriel off; in fact, that’s the last thing he wanted to do at the moment. In reality, he needed a distraction, and here his boyfriend was, an expert in the art of taking Sam’s mind off of all his pain.
Sam looked back down at the sink, now having to grip his hands against the cool marble to keep himself steady. His breaths came out in huffs, goosebumps now trailing down his arms, and damn, did a distraction sound good right now?
Instead of continuing this conversation, which Sam knew was going to turn into a proper argument if he didn’t shut his mouth, he decided to jumpstart said distraction before he said or did something stupid.
Sam had to force himself to walk to bed and sit like normal before his mind became particularly ravenous. But once he got to that place, there’s only so much he could do.Or,
A make-out session featuring a very bloodthirsty Sam and a very pleased Gabriel.

His point of saying that was simply that he had wanted to put an end to this before it went too far. Or at least that’s what he wanted to tell himself. But something inside him didn’t want it to stop. He had yearned for this for so long. He was starving.
Dean finally pushed himself forward, and despite the long tension that had been held between the two in that position, Cas still let out a slight exclamation of surprise when their lips met. The moment was breathtaking.
