Summary
Every obstacle at Françoise Dupont High School feels like its own layer of darkness to Marinette. The struggle to keep moving forward in that expanse of darkness has not gotten easier, but a chance encounter on the school's volleyball court shows her that there is still light to be found. Wishing she could hold onto it for just a bit longer seems natural. After all, she doesn't think she has ever seen anyone shine as brightly as Kagami Tsurugi.

Summary
This was inspired by BeeRye's "A Baton Pass from Past to Present" after reading their recent chapter (I would put up a link to the story but I don't know how)
Labrys get's her first proper break from Shadow Operative work just in time for Summer, but the day of arrival is the worst possible choice with all of the Inaba crew working on their final exams and a downpour of Rain keeping her from exploring her favourite little town. So as she runs off to surprise her friends after they finish their exams she run's into a new friend playing at the floodplain.

“Did someone bully you at school?”
Kagami clutched Cheng-san’s shoulders. “N-no,” she mumbled.
“Did you get a bad result?”
“I, I haven’t been registered as a student yet…”
“What made today a bad day, then?” said Cheng-san, oozing kindness and attentiveness. “Would you like to tell me?”
No. No, she wouldn’t. There was no need to tell anyone something so private only the second time she met them, but also Cheng-san’s embrace was so kind, and yes.
“My soulmate,” Kagami said, breathlessly. “I found out I can never have her.”
“Ah,” said Cheng-san. “I should have guessed when I saw the two of you… you met her at fencing, didn’t you?”
Kagami’s blood froze. She pushed herself free from the hug, stared into Sabine’s eyes. “How do you know that?”
There was something about Cheng-san’s expression that felt different from before the hug started. An undertone that made it look like she suddenly hadn’t slept enough. “She is my daughter,” she said.
