Except on the far side of the tent where his bedroll is laid out, because the tent is /not/ empty after all, no, his brother is here, in, on, his bedroll, kneeling on his bed roll, kneeling on his bedroll in only his pants, knelling on his bedroll in only his pants with his knees on either side of a pair of hips, his hands pinning another pair of hands against the ground. The drape of Lan Wangji's unbound hair hides ...whoever this is from Lan Xichen's sight but the person ...is definitely a person.
OR Lan Xichen walks into what he thinks is his brother's /empty/ tent and learns many things he would he would REALLY rather not know.

Jiang Cheng whorls to face his brother whose hand is still restraining him. Wei Wuxian looks exhausted, too thin and too pale and covered in too much of his own blood and way too fucking exhausted and what does he mean it’s fine!? “He had you pinned to a tree!”
“Yeah, so?”
“So!?” Jiang Cheng stares at his brother in mingled outrage and disbelief. “You let him do that to you without even fighting back!?”
“Sometimes I fight back.” A bit of amusement is beginning to show beneath the exhaustion now and Jiang Cheng can’t fucking understand what could possibly be funny about any of this.
OR At the end of an already terrible day Jiang Cheng finds someone pinning his brother against a tree.

Lan Wangji inclines his head and Jiang Yanli returns the gestures before turning and walking away.

Jin Zixuan states after her unable to form a coherent thought because WHAT!??? Did... Did she just.... No. No no. NO. This... This CANT be happening. There's no way that... Jiang Yanli and Lan Wangji?????

“Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian is as ever the first to break the silence, tension in his voice and in the nod he gives Lan Wangji.
“Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji’s voice is also tight with tension and while his face is unreadable as ever his eyes seem stuck to Wei Wuxian as though someone has used a talisman to fix them there. Even when he gives the other man a sharp nod of greeting he still continues to stare at him.
For his own part Wei Wuxian looks away quickly then his eyes flick back to Lan Wangji and then away again and Nie Huaisang knows, knows that there’s a lot more going on here than the simple hatred everyone attributes to them. He’s not sure exactly what’s between them but there’s clearly /something/ and now that they’re both hear under his roof Nie Huaisang is determined to find out what.
He has a plan.
OR When Nie Huaisang figures out that WangXian's relationship is more than just hate he comes up with a (overly complicated) plan to figure out what's really going on.

Lan Wangji /is/ in the courtyard after all. He’s leaning, head back, against a tree body still mostly concealed by shrubbery. That isn’t what Lan Qiren takes issue with, no what Lan Qiren takes issue with is that what he can see is of Lan Wangji’s body is in a scandalous state of undress. His outer robes are gone and his inner robe is open, baring the skin of his chest, and far more scandalous than any state of undress, his forehead ribbon is missing. Missing! For a moment they just stare at each other, Lan Qiren’s eyes narrowed, Lan Wangji’s a little wider than usual, then Lan Wangji inclines his head. “Shifu.” Lan Qiren notices that his voice sounds more strained than usual.
“Oh fuck!” The voice comes from somewhere in the shrubbery surrounding Lan Wangji and a moment later, to Lan Qiren’s utter horror, none other than Wei Wuxian pops up out of the bushes, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
