    Ch2

“It is done." John feels his body dissolve, atoms drifting away in sparks of light, leaving his soul bare and untethered to kneel before the King. And John sighs in relief. The deal is struck. He can relax now. It truly is done. “Rise, most Beloved of Souls.” John stands, feeling his new title laying lightly on his head, and now he’s comfortable despite the heaviness of the King’s presence. Now he’s able to settle back into his metaphysical skin. The binding on his soul might be tighter than ever, but he’s used to the feeling. There’s no point in pretending to be subservient now. He’s bound to the Infinite King for all time, but he’s not going to change who he is even for the most powerful being in all of existence. Might as well let the being know what they’re in for.

John stands, feeling his new title laying lightly on his head, and now he’s comfortable despite the heaviness of the King’s presence. He fishes out the pack of cigarettes he knows will still be in his pocket and snags one, lighting a flame on a finger. He’s always wanted to do that, but he’s never felt like wasting even a bit of the power that could save his life, could save his world from destruction. Now there’s no point in holding back. After a thought, he offers the Infinite King the pack, finally looking up to see the form of his Sovereign.
    -
“I will give you many more titles before our time is done, Bright Eyes.” John’s jaw drops a little, his cigarette clinging to his lips. He can feel the emphasis on the words, the weight of the title the King just bestowed upon him. That’s heady. It flits over his eyes, filling his sight with sparks, rays of light shining from every plane of the King’s face for an instant. He can feel his vision clearing, sharpening, his Sight gaining clarity and after he blinks, he watches a vibrant blue glow fade from the King’s face. His eyes must’ve been glowing. That seems like something he’s going to have to look into later. But more importantly, that’s definitely flirting. The Infinite King is flirting back with him. Hells yes.
    -
John’s little pack of cigarettes looks painfully human in comparison to the god before him, despite being a part of his soul. He raises an eyebrow in question and shakes one smoke loose from the pack.
    -
He hums in thought, then lifts both hands to his Crown. He lifts it easily from his shoulders and hefts it in one hand. He glances down at John, and smirks. “Watch this.” Then he throws the Crown of Fire like a discus, the points blurring with speed, and slices off Prime Darkseid’s head. The Crown whips around midair, spinning on its edge and plowing through Prime Darkseid’s body, blowing him to flaming pieces and sending a massive wash of heat over John and the rest of the Justice League. The fire almost instantly consumes what is left of Prime Darkseid, burning him to ash, the Crown dripping with flaming gore as it spins back to the King. The King catches his Crown in one hand, the metal completely clean once more. John can’t speak. Prime Darkseid, the most deadly and dangerous foe the Justice League had ever encountered, the being that threatened their entire multiverse, gone with one mighty blow of the King’s Crown. Well, two, but John’s pretty sure the second blow was just for show.

John takes a moment or three to calm himself down, then turns to deal with the rest of the do-gooders. He may have just bound his soul to the Infinite King, but at least the guy seems to be half-decent. And judging by that last little exchange, he’ll be a half-decent fuck. John thinks about his King’s body, his smirk, the power he gave off. Maybe more than half-decent. A magician can hope.
