He had wallowed for a little while, then found purpose again in a routine, knowing that eventually Aziraphale would come crawling back, confessing his great mistake in thinking that he could make a change Upstairs.
He never in his most petty dreams imagined that Aziraphale would return a broken little creature, dirty with what looked like perhaps an attempted smiting.
