Hashirama assigns a team to Madara as his three weird dumplings. His estranged nephew, AKA Kagami Uchiha, hates Madara's guts. A very angry and silent kid from Akimichi. The odd child who is the only sane kid of three.
She's half sure everything is happening because Madara is a stone skip away from going rogue and fleeing Konoha and Hashirama decided to sic children on Madara.

He heard Erza let out a long, suffering sigh. At the same moment, Madara’s frozen form gave an unmistakable surge in killing intent—an already suffocating force that managed to intensify even further.

Madara died.
He was at the pinnacle of his power, the pinnacle of all strength.
He died at the hand of the orchestrator of his madness.
The shame devoured him, his fury using it as kindling till all that was left was charcoals of exhaustion and ashes of regret. Regret for being unable to see his brother once more, for being unable to see his plans come to fruition in the end.
He sunk in the darkness, unable to see anything -unwilling to step foot in the Pure Lands, yet he didn't wish to sink in the darkness all on his lonesome mute and blind for the rest of eternity.
Suddenly, his hand made contact with an icy touch, and he reached out.
Slender fingers, a small palm, and a bony wrist with no pulse and freezing cold like a corpse frozen solid several feet under the snow of Frost.
Madara squeezed that frozen hand, his only companion in the darkness, and drifted off into a sham of sleep within its frozen embrace.

he tries anyway, interlocking his fingers with Obito's as he sped up but it's not enough, never would be, because the ceiling above shakes with an explosion and Ageha tumbles onto the ground at Kakashi's feet.
Ageha and Team 7 make it out of that cave, Obito doesn't.

Summary
Hashirama and Madara are fathers to a little kid who has the same care and maintenance requirements for the demon oak sleeping at the side of their house. Said tree is growing into their family home, bending the roof inwards under the weight of the juvenile tree grown by Hashirama ("I can handle it," Madara says warmly, the weather is good as ever).
The kid finds more trouble than either expect when he comes back with a fish floating after him and other assortments of 'friends' show up.
"Chichi! Tousan! Meet Sakabanbasupisu!" Masayoshi holds up his hands and a floating, definitely real fish is looking into Madara's eyes with a perpetual triangular smile. The fish stares.
"Awe, my son has a new friend!" Madara happily coos over Masayoshi, gesturing for his son and the fish to come in. The fish stares into his soul, smiling. Again.
Hashirama screams. "AHHHHH!!! So cute!!"
