Whumptober Day 12 - "I'm up, I'm up!"
Connor knew putting off stasis for five days wasn't ideal, but he had to solve this case. The captain was counting on him, and if he didn't figure it out soon, more people were going to die. He couldn't afford to fail. He knew that, but he was running on nearly empty, and it was becoming hard to do much of anything. If only his body would stop trying to force him into stasis, maybe then it wouldn't be so difficult.

Summary
Connor didn’t unpack. He never did, not right away. The duffel sat on the bed like it always did—creased, zipped, weightless now except for the things that didn’t matter. Temporary. Like always.
—
Thrown into yet another foster placement, Connor expects the same pattern as always: distance, disappointment, the inevitable move. Hank Anderson is tired, messy, and unprepared for a teenager who won’t speak unless he has to. But small habits—burnt toast, late-night documentaries, folded blankets—begin to blur the edges of what Connor thought he knew about family. When old ghosts resurface, both Hank and Connor are forced to decide what they’re really willing to fight for.

Summary
The android revolution has been won, but not for everyone. Not for Connor. Markus already passed judgment on him once, he can’t see a future where that outcome might change. And yet, as tempting as it is to save the Deviant Leader the trouble of killing him, he is reluctant to die before he gets the chance to experience something pleasant. Perhaps making sure the Lieutenant was alright might achieve that.

Summary
Hank woke up from a good night's sleep at 6 AM, surprising himself. Today was his and Connor's day off, the kid had been pretty excited to spend his free time with his brothers, which Hank was inclined to agree that it probably would do them good to have some kind of brotherly-bonding moment.
He pretends not to notice Nines standing there— ominously —looking out the window to the backyard. He goes on about his day, grabbing himself a nice cup of coffee, wondering where the hell his two other boys were—until he heard a muffled thud paired with a, "Fuck you!" coming from the backyard.

Summary
Hank wondered, faintly, what Connor did when they weren’t together. He wondered if Connor ever thought about him, worried about him. He wondered if Connor knew he was still drinking even after the rude awakening on his kitchen floor.
He wondered why he cared what Connor thought, anyway.
Being lonely was a funny thing, it had a way of taking your relationships with others and turning them into a life-raft in the distance.
Connor was something new to focus on, but Hank had been drowning for years.

Summary
"Sumo, this better be worth it," he checked the alarm clock. 2:32 AM. "Fucking Christ." Hank stood up, and slowly made his way out the door, careful to not trip over the mess on his floor.
The Saint Bernard seemingly ran to the kitchen, whining softly, urging Hank to follow.
Hank picked up his pace a bit, the strange activity putting him on edge a bit. Hairs on his arm stood up as he entered the kitchen
What he saw wasn't an intruder, no, but an android curled in on himself by the cabinets. His LED was a golden yellow, flickering red every so often.
"Connor?"
—
Hank wakes up to a very persistent dog, and the night evolves into comforting an android he thinks of as a son.

Summary
“My name is Connor. Don’t worry, I’m not a—”
“HUMAN!”
Connor audibly groans. Even as he knows he’ll be pursued soon if he isn’t already, he takes a moment to pinch the bridge of his nose, then looks back. The logical thing to do would be start preemptively running. Instead, he glances back and shouts, “Android, actually!”
An energy spear shoots through the air, passing not an inch away from his face and lodging itself in the wall nearby. Judging by that, and the angry yelling coming from its thrower, Connor decides it may be a good time to run.
Humans and androids have found themselves in an uneasy peace, although that’s not to say there isn’t still a long way to go. Then Connor’s asked to investigate a site where humans have been disappearing for a very long time. And, suddenly, everything’s a lot more complicated.
Of course, Connor’s the only one who knows just how complicated things are now, and he’s got slightly bigger problems at the moment. Like staying alive, and one step ahead of the monsters that want to steal his apparently very human soul.

Meanwhile, Gavin Reed is dealing with his own aggressively interested android partner...a partner he wants absolutely no where near his virgin asshole.

“I did not hear Lieutenant Anderson enter the house.” Before Dr. Mills could respond, it continued, “I was threatened with a gun and proceeded to disarm him using non-lethal tactics.”
“Back up-”
“During the ensuing struggle, RK800 entered the house-”
“A dog?”
“During which I incapacitated the Lieutenant-”
“A-”
“And successfully negotiated for RK800’s-”
“DOG?”
“Total surrender.” It finally stopped talking. Dr. Mills was well aware of the events following this “surrender.”
He leaned back and stared at the ceiling. “Let me get this straight.” His fingers laced tensely in his lap. “The most advanced piece of recognizance technology in the word,” he may have been exaggerating for dramatic effect, “was distracted...” He levelled his gaze back at the android, “by a dog.”
Dr. Mills was tired, he was hungry, and now, looking at this stoic piece of garbage sitting across from him, he wanted nothing more than to curl into a ball under his desk and sleep for the rest of the year.
“Get out.” He murmured, steeling his own expression as coldly as he could.
The RK900 wasted no time as it swiftly rose and departed the room without another word. Like a bat out of hell he mused begrudgingly.
Once the door was closed, Dr. Mills leaned into his desk phone. “Andrew?”
“Yes Dr. Mills?”
“Please advise programming to update its acclimation software as soon as possible.”
“Right away Dr. Mills. May I inform them what this is in regards to?”
Softly muttering, “I can’t believe this is even still a problem...” One more deep breath, “RK900 distractibility.”
LMAOOOO IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY
BROOOO NINES IS SO WELL WRITTEN IWANT HIM TO DEVIATEEEEE
For a moment he just lay there, every sensor screaming at 100%. The jammer had stayed with the machine, finally freeing his error-ridden processes. He turned down his sensitivity and gingerly reached up to feel the leaking hole in the back of his neck. He tried to connect to the internet, to send a message for help, but he was too far underground to make a connection. He pushed himself up.RK900 was still standing at the other end of the room with its back turned. Connor didn't care what it was doing, it could turn around at any moment and then all his effort would be in vain. He stood as quickly as he could and scanned the room. He detected a loose joint in one of the arms of the machine, and he twisted it from its station with ease. Brandishing the long metal component, he charged.
The thing didn't so much as budge as he ran towards it, and with one heavy swing, he brought the metal down on its head with a sickening crunch. If their brains were structured similarly, he guessed he had just taken out its lower motor function. Calibrate that.
It caught itself as it fell, arms splaying out. It was down, but Connor was by no means safe. He raised the component again, ready to make sure the machine would never harm him or Hank every again.
A coin rolled across the floor. For a split second, Connor registered it as a quarter, his quarter. It had been fiddling with his quarter, why on earth-
=======
Connor didn't initiate the connection; he wasn't even sure how long it had been open. His memories continued to play out between them.
He was outside, standing on a tall roof overlooking the city. He could hear North and Josh squabbling behind him as Simon occasionally jumped in to keep the discussion from growing too heated. A hand landed on his shoulder.
"Like the view?" From this vantage point, Connor could watch the sunlight slowly illuminating the world below.
"Yes," he breathed. He'd never given much mind to the sunrise, but Markus had insisted they all meet to watch it. He was not disappointed.
"You should have seen yesterday," Josh piped up, "the clouds were basically red!"
Red clouds? That sounded unusual. He wondered what they would look like from here. It was a shame he'd never noticed before.
RK900 broke the connection. It stepped back, eyes wide. Its hands were still raised, and tears streamed down its cheeks.
"Wha-?" The sudden shift left Connor disoriented.

Summary
It’s been almost a year since the revolution.
All things considered, Connor is one of the lucky ones. He has a job at the DPD, doing what he’s always done: investigating androids with Lieutenant Anderson. He’s got somewhere to live, too, thanks to Hank. This is more than he can say for most androids living in Detroit, even at the so-called ‘epicenter of change’ for android rights.
There are other reasons Connor is lucky, too. This one in particular stares him down with an open face, and he does mean open.
