It’s the end of the world, sure, but Will Byers has more pressing matters: mainly, that his family is bunking with the Wheelers for the foreseeable future. The situation should theoretically be fun, but instead, each second Will spends around Mike draws him further into his own scrawled-out, screwed-up crush. And while Will thinks Mike can’t tell, the only Wheeler boy is finally starting to think about—or even think through—his own feelings.

Excerpt:
Reaching his hands up, he rests a palm on my arm, fingers gripping my shoulder. Almost immediately, my anger dissipates with a sharp intake of breath. All I can focus on is his hand on my body, the way his eyes look down into mine. His smell, musk and pine and something else that I can’t quite put my finger on.
“Will.” His voice is velvet. It slips through me, over me, settling into my body with an achingly familiar comfort. He’s close enough that if I wanted to, I could twist my fingers into his jumper. Pull him towards me with the fabric and grab onto his wrist.
“Will, I can’t.” His voice cracks and his eyes look up, searching mine. “I can’t lose you again.”

Eleven stopped in her search. She turned to her brother with questioning look. Wondering what's going on in his head. She sensed something was wrong with her brother, but for what exactly, she wasn't sure. She sensed whatever was making his heart race and body panting for air, keeping his eyes downward, afraid to look at anyone. Wasn't anything to do with their mission. "Perhaps we are" she said calmly, drawing his eyes to her. "So what are we going to do about it"

A year and a half is a long time to wait for the world to end. It's even longer when, for you, it already has.

Summary
Vecna is still on the loose, hiding in the shadows, plotting the consumption of the Rightside Up and the innocent people who live there. Only those who have witnessed the wrath of Vecna and the Upside Down will be able to end this once and for all. So, what's the plan? This fanfic follows the journey of Will Byers and Mike Wheeler into the Upside Down to fight Vecna and the other unworldly beasts, such as the demogorgons, head on. However, their mission is unfortunately hindered by the black raging storm, leaving them to take shelter in the alternate Wheeler's house. Summary
Mike hated seeing Will get hurt.
Even if this time the scars were not physical, he noticed the way his friend’s soul ached. Digging together at the start of sunrise had brought Will back to a memory he did not wish to tell. Mike frowned, leading the older boy back to his house. It was one they shared now, with Will having lost everything before his own joy.
Maybe it has struggled to exist since that day in November all along.
“I’ll get you home,” Mike had promised, wishing more could leave his lips. And yet, they seemed sealed shut as his brain grew fogged, trapped in a haze of unending regret.

Summary
After a desperate fight against Vecna, Eleven and Mike find themselves no longer in Hawkins or at the end of the world. Not only that, but it's not 1987, it's 1973, they're in New York, Hawkins doesn't exist, and superheroes that they only knew in comics are real people when they come across a seemingly abandoned Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
They realize that they are not the only ones wandering through time, as they get involved in a fight to save the future of the X-Men while trying to find their way back home to save their friends from Vecna's forces.

Will couldn't hide it anymore. The guilt of the lie hurt him, it made his stomach turn. He had to tell Mike the truth, he deserved to know the truth. After thinking about it for a few seconds, he sighed and looked Mike in the eyes.
"I lied," he admitted embarrassedly, his hands shaking.
"What?" Mike quickly turned his head.

Oh the horror of being doomed by the narrative you yourself wrote.
On the 6th of November 1987 Will sacrifices himself, two years later in 1989 Mike can't live with the guilt anymore. Everything that happened to Will, all of it, it was always his fault. Now Will is gone and Mike is the only one who remembers him. So he lies, and lies, and lies because it's the only thing he is good for. Until he can't anymore, until he doesn't see the point in staying anymore.
But there is one thing Mike needs to say to Will before it's too late.
One last thing.
