Summary
Tommy’s death didn’t make any sense. He was supposed to go down in a blaze of glory, like his brother before him. Instead, he’d died away from view. He vanished with a whimper instead of a blast. He died after the war had already been won, not for his ideals or his country, but just… for what? Because Dream felt like tasting blood that day? Because Sam had gotten distracted and wasn’t there to prevent it? Because Tubbo had kept his distance from him in the past few weeks and wasn’t there to point out that visiting the man who’d ruined his life was a monumentally stupid idea?
It all felt so… unfair.
So, even after Sam tried to chase him away, he waited. And waited. And waited… until he remembered the reason why they hadn’t killed Dream when the whole server had gathered together to take him down. Tommy’s murderer supposedly had a way to bring him back. He hadn’t proven the existence of his powers yet, so Tubbo didn’t know how much he believed it. However, in the small chance that it was true… he couldn’t let him get to his best friend first.

“Can you hear me?” Tubbo whispered, like he didn’t want to believe Ranboo was actually awake. “...can you see me?”
Ranboo, whose teeth were still clenched so hard they were surprised none had broken yet, raised a heavy hand barely an inch off their abdomen where it had been resting and gave Tubbo a tremulous thumbs-up.
To his surprise, a muffled sob cut through the near-silence of what he assumed was the medical bay of the Republic cruiser.
“...’bo?” they slurred. “Wha’s go’n’ on?”
“I-” Tubbo shook his head, hesitating, before scrubbing at his eyes with his sleeve. “I’m just glad to see you awake. You fuckin’ scared me.”
Something was missing, something was wrong, but he was too tired and everything hurt.
