Summary
On the cusp of aging out of foster care, Kazuma Kuwabara and Yusuke Urameshi are trying to figure out what comes next for the two of them. While trying to think about how to survive on their own, Yusuke opens up a mysterious book that warns not to read The Poem inside. For if you do, a furious Goblin King will come to drag you back to the Makai, a world of fantasy, rebellion, and adventure. Once the Poem is read, Yusuke is captured and spirited away to Gandara, behind the Labyrinthine forest, and Kuwabara will have to do his best to rescue his friend. Summary
Formerly the Yusuke and His Nanny series, but the scope got bigger. (See: What the heck is The Loyal Retainer?)
This series includes the fancomic North Bound, the story of Hokushin and Raizen's adventures.
This is a collection of stories, illustrations and comics focused on Hokushin (predominantly Hokushin and Yusuke, but the timeline has increased to before the beginning of the series). Wide range of tone from serious to silly, straightforward to more experimental.
All stories tend to follow manga continuity first and anime continuity where appropriate, and draw from canon as much as possible, with a lot of nostalgia.
Each piece/chapter can be read on its own, though they will make reference to conversations and events in other pieces.

Hiei. Yusuke. They're friends, or at least it started out that way.
Well, if you go far enough back, they really started as enemies. Then allies, teammates and for a hot minute, Hiei was Yusuke's hired mercenary - paid with the Black Chapter. At the first Makai Tournament, they were technically enemies again, even if they never fought. And allies once more, when Reikai was held hostage.
Somewhere in the middle of all the chaos, Hiei had decided 'friend' was a word he could also begrudgingly tack on to Yusuke. Not that Hiei ever told him that.

I love the boys and yusukes silly little slow burn and the mutual guilt and angst and the miscommunication and the realness of Keiko and the ingenuity of author (Toguro harassing Kuwabara??? I never would have thought of that! God it adds so much tho)
I cant wait for them to be requited/reveal feelings but I also am in awe of their slowburn - it is beautiful and comfortingly warm and lustily scorching and heartwrenching.Only qualm is character descriptions- minor confusion between Toguro brothers during the actual fighting bit, who Kuwabara and Yusuke were fighting. I would have more easily known if I hadn't watched the show more than a few years back but ye :)
Gosh i just love this series
