In Geralt's life, more often than not, touch meant pain. From being held down during the trials, to blows exchanged during fights, every unpleasant touch of skin against skin was only amplified by his enhanced senses.
The only people who he trusted to respect his boundaries, whose touch brought comfort instead of pain, were Eskel, Lambert, and Vesemir. He only saw them during winter, but that was fine. He could go nine months of the year without friendly touch; he'd been doing it for decades. It was better this way, better for everyone.

Jaskier has had enough. It wasn't only the mountain, but all of the things before, that slowly broke his heart more and more every day. He loved Geralt with his whole heart, knowing it would never be enough, knowing he could never give Geralt all he deserves, but at least wanting to be there for him as a friend. But all he got was harsh treatment and harsher words. So he didn't wait, didn't look for him and left. He's got his own life to return to.

He can see the Dorndall fortress looming in the distance, and thus presumes with some certainty that there’s at least a village nearby. Jaskier also vows to procure a better map at his nearest opportunity.
Indeed, a few miles east of Dorndall stands a modest little town called Dry Gulch, which is just a lovely name and not at all depressing or bleak. Ah, well. Needs must. “Come on, Peg,” he urges. “To sweet civilization we go.”
