Summary
In 2023, the fight for mutant rights presses on, and then falls back to pointless oblivion. Laws are written and passed, and the facade of peaceful coexistence grows harder to believe day by day.
All Erika wants is to keep her head above water; to scratch out some semblance of a life worth living with Charlotte, and to rebuild the family that was stolen from her. All the while, once-unspoken contempt for mutantkind grows louder, grim figures of her past rear their heads, and she can’t help but question if it would be fair or humane to bring a child into this world.
Although it’s a little too late for that. Because after all too much trying and failing, Erika is pregnant.

Honestly, this started as a crack fic idea, but as I started writing it became a very serious contemplation of their love and the complications that would come from them trying to make it work.

“Glad to see you alive and well,” jokes a deep, dry voice to his right side, and Charles nearly jumps right out of his seat. His heart is racing in surprise, and when he turns to face his new lecture companion, he almost spits his coffee out all over the front of Erik Lehnsherr’s dark green turtleneck.
Charles gets spectacularly drunk, humiliates himself, and still manages to get the man of his dreams.

In order to use his power, he sacrificed the ability to walk. However, Erik always knew that if there was a way for him to walk without taking away his power, then he would take it in a heartbeat.
