Daddano, as it had turned out, had spent far too long away from Mother Russia. Having clearly forgotten the ways of civilized men, he took to the game Goncharov attempted to play with a naive, childish-like zeal.
That is to say, upon the slightest excuse offered by an unclear command, Daddano had draped himself over Goncharov’s lap, waving a document or other in front of his face.
As far as distractions went, this one was a startlingly effective one.
The pout Daddano wore after Goncharov had thrown him off, hard, onto the tiled floor, had been almost as distracting. Thankfully, being married to Katya for—it was coming on five years now, how the time flew—made Goncharov immune to these kinds of tactics.
Daddano took the hint. He still stood far too close to Goncharov, and leaned in twice as much as was polite when speaking, clearly unfamiliar with the idea of personal space, but at least he now accepted that any seat Goncharov took was exclusively his.

I was talking with my dad, who's a huge Scorsese nerd, about the resurgence of Goncharov and you're not going to believe what this man pulls off his bookshelf. Apparently, Goncharov was based on this obscure pulp novel that came out in 1970 and as far as I can tell there's never been an official translation. I sped-read the whole thing once and loved it, so I thought I might translate it and put the chapters up here! My Italian is highschool level and my dad's isn't much better so forgive me for the liberties taken in trying to make this readable!
Rated M for mature themes, violence, and implied sexual content.
