i love a role reversal, and this is probably the most character accurate sam-lucifer reversal i've read. which sounds like one of those "best [thing so incredibly specific it's hard to believe there's more than one] award" situations, but i really do devour sam-lucifer (or more broadly human-angel) roleswaps in spn fandom.

Dean is disgusted by Lucifer. The idea of being 'mated' to the devil is ridiculous, not to mention painfully ironic. His behavior toward Lucifer is nothing short of cruel and cold.
Until he finds a little black book on the table. It reads 'Regarding Archangels, For Dean Winchester' on the cover.
Well, it says it's for him. And besides, what's the harm a little book can do?
Or: the one fic nobody asked for where Castiel helps Dean get his head out of his ass and the hunter and archangel make up with lots of fluffy cuddles.

Summary

In other words: Chuck turns Lucifer into a 4 year old child and leaves him with Sam to raise.

Summary
As mentioned in the series title, this is an AU where Michael, Lucifer, Raphael, Gabriel, and Chuck are a human hunter family. This series will likely be largely Raphael-and-Michael-centric and, as of now, is not driving towards any plot. It's just a collection of independent works connected only in that they all take place in the same universe. A/U to season 13. It was like watching a car wreck in slow motion. Dean’s eyes widened in horror as Mary took a step toward Lucifer and slammed a fist into his face, the knuckles glowing with those powerful sigils. Lucifer stumbled back, just a few steps closer to the ever closing rift, and Dean watched as Mary punched Lucifer again with her other fist. She punched him a third time and he was so close, one more good jab and he was going to fall in, but then he reached out to grab her and that was when Dean moved into action without another thought, ignoring Sam’s yell of “DEAN!”, shrugging off his sorry attempt to pull him back. This was mom, and she was NOT going to die (or worse) like Cas. He ran toward them, surprising them both as he tackled Lucifer into the rift, pushing them both onto the other side...shit.
Lucifer and Dean end up trapped in Apocalypse World with a crazy Michael bent on destroying everything. In order to survive and find a way back, they have to put aside their differences and work together. Easier said than done...

Summary
Sam doesn't know what he's expecting to happen after Lilith's death. An overwhelming sense of satisfaction, maybe? The ability to look his brother in the eye and say "I did the right thing, I stopped a monster," and actually mean it?
Or maybe he doesn't expect anything. Maybe past the bravado and stubborn determination he doesn't actually want to come out the other end alive. Just wants a big showdown where he can make someone else feel as fucked up as he does.
Regardless, the absolute last thing he could have expected was for Lilith's death to be a bad thing. To be the straw that broke the camels back. But he's going to work with it, he's going to get the hell out of dodge and find a new normal.
Then again, can anything really be normal after you find yourself sharing a body with the devil?

“Tell me, then.” He’s still struggling to speak. Lucifer wonders if the pain persists, even after being physically healed. Or if, perhaps, Sam is just broken inside. That would be a shame, but his own fault. “Tell me about our world. What did you dream of?”
He’s vying for time, Lucifer realizes. Time left untouched, free of torture. Well, Lucifer has the rest of time itself for that. He lays his head on Sam’s lap like a child, brings Sam’s hand to stroke his hair, and begins the story he had spent lifetimes dreaming of before Sam freed him.

So now he and Sam lay in their bunk together, the Cage dark save for the flashes of lightning around the void they were suspended in.
Surprisingly, Lucifer wasn’t even touching him at the moment. He rested with his hands behind his back, looking up at the tightly woven metal of their prison.

For a while the only sounds were the occasional crashes of thunder, and the soft, steady breaths of the archangel and the hunter. In that time, Sam’s mind was blank. There was so much he’d gone through, and at the moment, it was impossible to process, so he didn’t process it. He didn’t think. He was just existing.Lucifer broke the silence between the two of them when he asked, “Do you ever miss Ruby?”
Sam’s mind started up again, thoughts flowing through his head, and without any hesitation, he answered, “I hardly ever think of her anymore. She’s just a distant memory.”
Sam tilted his head to face Lucifer, lightning flashed, and he was met with the dark angel’s calm, thoughtful expression looking back at him.
He closed his eyes tightly, forcing himself to take deep breaths when he suddenly felt Lucifer’s hand making its way through his hair, his touch gentle. Sam would actually prefer it if he hurt him. Knowing that the Devil could do more than just bring pain was confusing.
Tears stung at the corners of his eyes and he gritted his teeth when Lucifer murmured, “I’m sorry about that, Sammy. I am, but you know me. I get bored. What else am I gonna do for fun?” Sam didn’t respond and Lucifer continued, “Besides, there are just some days where I absolutely hate you.”
Sam gave a harsh laugh. “That’s the difference between us. I hate you 24/7.”
He felt the muscles in the hand running through his hair tense, but after a few incredibly long seconds, Lucifer just continued caressing him. A shiver ran through Sam from his cold touch, and a tear fell.
“I understand,” Lucifer eventually said. “I’d hate me too if I was in your position.”
“Then why do you do it?” Sam asked.
“I just explai-”
Sam felt weird having this conversation with his back towards him, so he rolled over and faced him.
“Yeah, I get that you’re pissed at me a lot of the time, but that’s a pathetic excuse for hurting me.”
A cold smile settled upon Lucifer’s features, and Sam started having difficulty breathing. Sometimes he got away with speaking out like that during a “lazy day”, but he wasn’t sure he would this time. Lucifer leaned towards him, and Sam tilted his head away.
Another chill ran through him when Lucifer admitted, his voice low and breathy, “I hurt you because I enjoy it.” Sam tensed when Lucifer’s hand crept over his waist and then went lower, reaching up under his shirt. The cold touch bit his skin, making him wince. “It’s as pleasurable as taking you.”

Author's Note: If you've read the title, you can guess what's up. This is NOT being abandoned, even if I leave it alone for a while. I'm going to try and actually write this with an outline and get a better idea of where I want to go with this. It may be re-written, if I feel like something needs to be changed for any reason. Sam and Dean Winchester are used to their father being gone; it's the hazards of having a hunter for a father. But even they are surprised when John leaves them with "Uncle" Bobby, planning to be gone for the whole year. He's never been on a hunt this long before, and Sam and Dean must learn to adapt to their new surroundings in Sioux Falls as they stumble across a broken family, murders, a secret drug ring, and a vicious ghost out for revenge.
