“I think,” the Cat King begins, lowly. “You want to know what he tastes like.” He runs his tongue over his bottom lip and smiles. “You want to know…what he feels like. And you’re pissed off, because I know.” He shrugs, nonchalantly. “And you don’t.”
Or: Edwin fell “first.” Charles falls screaming, bleeding, crawling, scratching and biting; knees bloody, spitting out teeth, and picking gravel out of his palms. But, like, it’s all fine, really.

“The effects of the truth potion should not last too long, but I could still look into a few potential counterspells for it.” Edwin looks Charles carefully over, his eyes full of concern, and it probably shouldn’t, but it still fills Charles’ stomach with a pooling warmth. He loves to be the center of Edwin’s attention, always, and especially like this, when Edwin’s extra soft and gentle with him, when he’s open with his affection and doesn’t hesitate to show Charles how much he cares about him. “What do you think, Charles?”

“So, what do you study at HFA?” Before the other boy can answer, Charles puts a hand on his shoulder. “No, wait, let me guess.” He puts a finger on his lips to think. “You don’t look like a sporty chap. No offense. And you’re taking your A-levels a year early, which means you got some brains inside that head of yours. You read. Very old books.”
“Sherlock Holmes is a classic!” Edwin looks offended.
“So… You’re definitely in the Humanities.” Charles turns with a smile for approval. “Am I right?”
“That is still sixteen different specialities.”
“Yeah, and I don’t know them all, so you’re gonna have to tell me, now."

But when Edwin involves him in the challenge, making him the one to determine who will marry into the royal family, Charles feels sick. How can he choose who will love Edwin the way he deserves? What does Edwin want for the person at his side? And why does it feel more and more like that's where Charles wants to be?
(Medieval AU, where Charles is the knight with Edwin's token, and the whole kingdom seems desperate for the hand of the one he loves most. Charles battles with who could love Edwin best, but the answer is closer than he would have expected.)

‘Chill out, Rowland,’ Crystal said. Her and Niko were now walking back to where Charles stood at the side of the Great Hall. The song had ended a couple of minutes ago, but Charles had been too distracted to notice.
Crystal was staring Charles down with the sort of look you would give a misbehaving child. Niko was smiling smugly to herself, though, about what, Charles didn’t know.‘I’m chill,’ he responded, his voice just a little too high. He cleared his throat awkwardly.
‘I’m completely chill,’ he repeated, a bit more convincingly this time.

Princess Niko of Port Townsend and her fiancée, Crystal, are invited to attend a ball in another kingdom to celebrate a coronation. They invite Edwin and Charles, a servant and a guard who they have become close friends with, to accompany them. He turned the book over in his hands and a few photos fluttered out from between the pages. His eyebrows shot up in surprise as they fell softly to the floor. Charles hadn't been aware Edwin had kept any family photos.The pictures were old, probably as old as the book, he thought, stooping to pick up the fallen papers from the floor. He knew he should tuck them back into the book, leave things be, but curiosity got the better of him as he turned them over in his hands, feeling the weight of the old photo paper. As he inspected the first image, he became accutely aware these were not family photos.
