He doesn’t laugh. There's nothing remotely amusing about any of this. “She ain’t a kid no more,” he says quietly, and immediately her face changes, softens at its edges.

She returned to Jackson, managed to rekindle her relationship with Dina and JJ and has been doing everything to help her people. But things grow dire when Ellie stumbles across a new threat, a caravan of raiders who are looking to take a shot at Jackson. However, Ellie isn’t the only one who’s tangled with this threat after being saved by a loner with a mask and a baseball bat. He’s also being hunted by them and is looking to settle the score. After he saves Ellie, she is forced to trust the stranger and hopefully stop this group before Jackson gets attacked. But as the two get to know each other, Ellie soon discovers that there’s more to the stranger than meets the eye.

The hospital monitor beeps as Ellie looks at her hand then back up at Abby. She’s confused. She doesn’t look like herself. “Uh.. It was.. Joel. I think,” Ellie says, before her eyes widen once again, and she moves her face closer to Abby’s. “Oh shit. Joel, where’s Joel, I need to talk to him.”
Abby’s heart fucking breaks. She doesn’t remember. She doesn’t remember Abby, and the way she’d soothe her to sleep after a nightmare, or movie nights under the stars behind Joel’s old house, or teaching Lev how to draw… She doesn’t even remember what happened to Joel.
In her head, she never met Abby at all.

Ellie had no knowledge of c-sections, they didn’t exactly teach medical techniques in FEDRA School or in Jackson, but she was determined.
She was going to cut this baby out no matter what.
Ellie succeeds in cutting Mel’s baby out and subsequently adopts them out of guilt.

This is called a drop. Since Joel's murder, Ellie's been in that state twice - once when she had Dina, Jesse, and Tommy to watch over her and take care of her as they hunted down Abby, and then again now as she hunts Abby down on her own. But now she's alone. Her pack is completely gone, Jesse dead and Dina and Tommy despising her, Ellie even being kept away from her own pup, JJ. This state has gone on for months and no help is coming as Ellie becomes borderline catatonic.
Until Abby finds Ellie at death's door, and it doesn't matter if Ellie hates her, what kind of Alpha would she be to let an Omega suffer like that? Of course she has to treat the girl who wants her dead like she were Abby's own mate, recruiting Owen and Mel to help bring the little Omega back - what else is there to do?
