A pregnant pause swells to fill the garage. Then Dina snorts and claws upright on the couch. She sways dizzily. “Oh, for sure.” Ellie squeaks, and Dina goes on, voice sing-songing, “And not just the old ones.”
Jesse says, slowly, bravely, “If we’re being honest, I think Joel’s attractive.”
Ellie falls backwards onto her ass, grunting at the impact. “Oh my God-”
“Tommy too,” Jesses adds, and Ellie throws a handful of puzzle pieces at him, shrieks:
“What?!”

The woman whips around, and yeah, she looks like she could be in her mid thirties, but Ellie is so confused because Joel never would have left her if there was even a chance Sarah were alive, he wouldn’t have abandoned her, and Ellie swings the scope back to Joel to see if she can read his face, but he’s facing the wrong way, and he’s hunched over like he’s physically in pain and—
“Daddy?”
She starts to move, slowly, towards Joel, taking halting steps like she thinks he’ll disappear. He doesn’t move at all.
Distantly, Ellie hears Anna radioing for Tommy.
“Daddy?” she asks again, and Ellie registers her southern drawl, even more pronounced than Joel and Tommy’s. She sounds like Scarlett O’Hara. Tommy made her watch Gone with the Wind last month, after Ellie had missed it on movie night.
Joel still hasn’t moved. Sarah doesn’t step any closer to him.
They just stand there, in a stalemate.
Joel is breaking down.

Ellie had imagined this day a million times. It was always coming, she just didn’t think it would be this soon. It had been less than a year since the incident in Salt Lake City. She’d told them that if they found a way to extract what they needed for the vaccine without killing her, she’d be all theirs. Now, it seems it’s time for her to make good on her promise.
Sure, they could’ve simply given up on finding a different solution. They could be here to attempt to take her against her will and perform the original surgery, but she doubts it. For Marlene to walk into Jackson with only ten men behind her, out-gunned and vulnerable, would be incredibly stupid. Not to mention, she knows Joel’s been waiting, practically praying, for the opportunity to take her out.

Marlene has supposedly found a different way to make the vaccine, Joel doesn't trust a word that comes out of her mouth, Ellie just wants everybody to calm the fuck down, and Tommy's just happy to be there.

But things grow dire when Ellie stumbles across a new threat, a caravan of raiders who are looking to take a shot at Jackson. However, Ellie isn’t the only one who’s tangled with this threat after being saved by a loner with a mask and a baseball bat. He’s also being hunted by them and is looking to settle the score. After he saves Ellie, she is forced to trust the stranger and hopefully stop this group before Jackson gets attacked. But as the two get to know each other, Ellie soon discovers that there’s more to the stranger than meets the eye.

“Whadda’ ya say, kiddo? Ready to go home?” Joel asked.

He made it sound so fucking simple.
“Yep.” She forced a smile onto her face that she hoped looked believable. “Let’s go, old man.”

Joel’s meandered over behind the counter, looking underneath the warping cabinetry and opening anything that isn’t locked. He sighs when he sees the industrial sized coffee machine, rusted metal glinting in the light streaming from the tattered ceiling tiles.
She squints to see the lettering on one of the remaining menus, tilting her head and rolling up on the balls of her feet to get a better view. “What’s a…fra…puk…seeno?”
“Frappuccino.” He corrects her without a second thought, sighing through his nose when another cupboard reveals nothing but a rotted mouse in the back corner. He shuts it closed and keeps moving.
“Frappuccino.” She tests the word on her tongue, quiet and uncertain. Each syllable rolls around uncomfortably between her teeth. “What is it? Coffee?”
He shrugs. “Technically. But I wouldn’t call it that. It’s real sweet.”
“Ah. Not real coffee.”
“Not real coffee.”
TLDR:
