Perdikkas comes into view, stepping closer to blink down at Phainon and Mydei on the ground. “You’re all here?”
Ptolemy scoffs, kicking lightly at the dirt. “Guess who has the extraordinary pleasure of being assigned the babysitting duty to the dumbass trio over here?” He rolls his eyes with a sharp sigh. “Not Peucesta, clearly. Lucky bastard.”
“Don’t lump me in with them,” Hephaestion protests. Ridiculous. Everyone knows who instigates the fights just as often as Phainon and Mydei.
“We don’t need babysitting,” Phainon says at the same time, words muffled as Mydei’s hand smashes his head into the ground, resuming their fight now that Ptolemy is distracted. Phainon almost bites down on the dirt by accident.

"Mydeimos."
Mydei lowers his eyes, taking in the blood dripping from the alpha's fingers. When he lifts them back up, Phainon blinks, and throws him a lopsided smile that doesn't reach the eyes, as if the man hasn't done it in a very long time.
Oh.
He recalls the times the alpha called him with that same exact tone, finally noticing the difference. Phainon's eyes darken the second the realization dawns on him, like a predator prancing in front of his prey.
His instincts scream at him to flee, but the other side of his mind finds it challenging, entertaining, and he wants.

“There isn’t much,” Hephaestion said. “Ptolemy’s search into your father’s archives for any information on the mysterious weapons left in your chambers remains ineffectual. Leonnius retrieved more correspondence from the Okheman gods in your absence.”
“The same individuals or anyone new?”
Hephaestion let out a faint sigh. It was not a new question and thus, he knew exactly what Mydei wanted to know. “Okhema’s god of War remains unresponsive to our summons.”

Summary

Dans un monde bien gris où la criminalité fait partie du quotidien, où les autorités sont dépassées et le risque d'être victime d'un trafic illégale est bien réel, les gens ordinaires essaient tant bien que mal de vivre normalement. C'est le cas de Phaénon, un nouvel étudiant qui n'a pas assez d'argent pour pouvoir se passer d'un colocataire et d'un job à temps partiel. Cependant, les études ne sont qu'une couverture pour Phaénon et derrière son sourire radieux se cache une détermination dangereuse : infiltrer l'organisation criminelle Acrokopis pour éliminer son chef, Mydeimos.

Mydei, for some reason, tenses again, reminiscent of a startled cat that's about to either run away or scratch him, which Phainon doesn't mind. He wants to see how strong Kremnoans are, see if their rumoured strength is true.
"I thought you said you knew nothing about the crown prince."
Phainon immediately raises his hands in surrender. "Wait, wait! I have no ill intention towards your crown prince, really! I only know his name and his fabled prowess in battles. I don't even know what he looks like."

Summary
Under all the theatrics of royalty and politics lay a man who, in his head, believed that he did not fit into that particular mold whatsoever. A simple man from the southern kingdom of Aedes Elysiae would rather spend his time being anything but royalty; however, fate seemed to have other ideas for him. Some of which he wasn't akin to.
