Summary
Your grip tightens on the foam handles. The chained links of the fence tower many feet into the air. You won’t climb. You’ll break. Grunting, the cold nips at your reddening fingers. The diamond-shaped wiring snaps beneath the tool’s beak, diagonally working up a few feet and then all around. You sniffle as the cold clamps its jaws at every inch of exposed skin. Why did winter start early this year? Stiffening fingers drop the bolt cutters and you push at the fence, doing your best not to cut your numbing skin.
The cold and you aren’t friends. Neither is the idea of upsetting anyone hospitable to you. Neither is each second of not knowing what your siblings are going through. You’ll do what you do best: You’ll silently remove yourself from the situation. Silently, right?

You raise a hand and push on their faceplate with a groan. “I’m not gonna repeat myself.”
Sun pulls back the slightest with a tsk, and then a snicker leaves their defaulted smile. You pull your hand away, flexing it as you still feel the warmth of their silicone on your palm. You rather like the warmth of Sun and the chill of Moon. Both are comforting, like Moon’s hug and Sun’s kiss.
Thoughts stop at Sun’s kiss. Your hand drops beside you, turning your head away. Your chest tightens as your face blooms in a warmth you’d chill in an ice bowl immediately. The bed suddenly shakes, and you yelp as Sun climbs right next to you. You bounce at the ferocity of their clamber, and their weight dips into the bed. You scramble away to give space, shoving aside the thought that this intrusion isn’t so bad. Drowning yourself in an ice bowl definitely sounds good right now.

As your hands warm, so do your cheeks. Moon turns with a grin and a nod, helping Sun to finish packing the drawer. You deferentially look at the capos’ backs. It’s a tingle in your fingertips, not sourced from the piping hot bowl you cup in your lap, followed by a warm cushioning in your chest and mild lightheadedness. Your lips part as you feel like jelly behind the capos, but then you curl your lip and shake your head.

You tighten your grip on the sunglasses. You’re shaking. You feel hot.
You see Moon’s claws twitch in your peripheral. They say nothing, but damn it, you want them to. After a moment of silence, Moon sighs.
