Alina threw a sharp glance at the privateer and bit on her tongue to suppress a snide remark. She moved the crate to the side and began to stand up, but a sharp pain shot through her right leg. She hissed and sat back down. Only then did she notice the blood soaking through the black fabric of her pants, and her stomach lurched.
Mal frowned. "Are you alright?"
Alina was about to respond when she heard footsteps approaching, and they all froze.
Sturmhond rose slowly to his feet only to get back down and press his back against the railing. "And not the welcome I expected," he muttered, already reaching for his pistols.When the Hummingbird crashes it's not the First Army but Aleksander who finds Alina and her friends.

She finds herself in the Capitol, far from home surrounded by possible rivals. The only winner of her district is a man that presents himself as Aleksander, and who’s gonna be her mentor.
She gets caught in the shamble that is the life in the Capitol, meeting all kind of new people from all district, ex victors and fellow tributes. Between them there are Genya, which she makes quick friends, Zoya another mentor who seems to hate her, and Ivan and Fedyor victors from their respective games a few years before. She’ll have to interact and possibly ally with even more people if she hopes to survive the Games.In the mean time Ivan and Fedyor explore their new relationship, trying to survive the life after the games, while the world is rapidly changing by Aleksander hands with a rebellion daring to breakout at any moment.
