Again, Alina heard Mal call out her name, panic ringing in his voice. She realised that this wasn’t just a product of her imagination, but she ignored it.
The Darkling remained silent.
“Do I make you weak?” she asked softly and gave him a fleeting kiss.
The Darkling let out a shuddering breath. She could feel that he was hungering for more, that he was greedy for her touch, and she desperately tried to suppress the hunger that rushed through her own body and the yearning for something that was already dying.
“Yes,” he whispered. Alina was surprised by this honesty. She caught sight of the glint in his eyes and before she had the chance to retreat, he pressed his lips to hers.Alina successfully severs her bond with Aleksander but it doesn't give her the relief she hoped for, and she realises too late that Aleksander isn't the only person she's losing when she and Mal end up having a fight.
