Viktor hummed, fiddling with a plucked blade of grass to prevent himself reaching out. He looked around, observing their environment. They were in a… field? It’s from an unknown number. Viktor raises his eyebrow, wondering which place in town this stranger found his number. It’s been a few months since someone new has reached out, not that that’s an issue. Viktor has a roster of regulars and typically meets at least one a week but, as the semester’s come to a close, he hasn’t scheduled any recently. The idea of something new intrigues him, and he has been wound a bit tight.. He drafts out his reply, then waits a few minutes to respond. He doesn’t want to give the impression that he’s at this person's beckoned call. He still has to finish this chapter anyway.

For all Jayce knows, Viktor could be coming home to a spouse who loves him dearly and who Viktor loves just as much. Viktor could be coming home to a partner who’d kiss him in the doorway, and then they’d lay in their bed, sleep in that same bed, and do things in that bed, and Jayce is totally not jealous of a person that may not even exist. (Was the sarcasm in that last sentence clear enough?)
Jayce just wants to be sure that if he expressed his interest more clearly, he would not be risking Viktor’s pity and the wrath of Viktor’s lover when Viktor would eventually express his discomfort to his most loved person about working with the man who confessed to him.
So, when he sees Viktor walking by with a small girl holding his hand and looking exactly like Viktor, his hopes break. Because Viktor clearly has a daughter, and so there’s no way Viktor doesn’t have someone special in his life — the girl’s mother, for example.

When Viktor was adopted by King Vander and Prince Consort Silco, it was with the understanding that, as an omega and a prince, he would eventually be called upon to serve Zaun by being wed to a foreign royal or high-ranking noble in support of a treaty or alliance. He is ready to do his duty when he is betrothed to the new king of Piltover, who has called for peace between their countries after leading the coup that unseated the old king.
