Naruto’s gaze flicked to the window—a flash of grey in the zen garden, where Sasuke’s profile lingered by the topiary. “It’s just professional courtesy.”
“Bullshit.” Shikamaru leaned forward, shadows pooling under his eyes. “You’re not subtle. Just delusional.”
Naruto spun a moonrock fragment across his knuckles determinedly not engaging.
“Ask her to be your mistress.”
The moonrock clattered to the floor.
Or—when Mars’s most eligible Alpha bachelor (self-proclaimed) developed a fixation on the austere Beta operative that had been assigned to protect his life and it gave Shikamaru a migraine.
