Ron would have given anything to sink through the dusty floorboards and disappear forever.

He wasn't sure what he was looking for or what he had been hoping to find but he had grown impatient with curiosity for SOMETHING. His self imposed social exile wasn't helping anything. When he told all his friends and family he wanted to be left completely alone during his vacation, he hadn't exactly imagined this scenario where he was almost burning with curiosity over Draco Malfoy with no one to talk him out of it.
