Given the circumstances, it may have been wise for Severus to turn and run.

With Lily unstable and her exact condition so much a mystery to him still, she could easily have torn him apart before he realized what had happened.

……Yet the danger Severus faced was seemingly unimportant to him in the wake of his darling’s suffering.

As soon as Lily cried out to him, he rushed towards her and caught her with his spare arm to pull her close, his lit wand still held in his other hand.

“I slept all day!” She sobbed against him as she cuddled onto his shoulder, “I slept all day…….And…….I…..I didn’t even realize I’ve eaten….I’ve been eating…...”

The horror of what had been in her mouth sent a shiver down her spine as Severus patted her back in a feeble attempt to bring her some comfort.

“That’s alright.” He drawled as he whirled them both around to avoid letting Lily look at the pile of dead spiders any longer.

“That’s alright, Lily, don’t fret about it. It’s over no……..Are you still hungry at all? How are you feeling?” Severus asked.

“I feel………I feel strong.” Lily sniffed after she thought for a moment, “I don’t really feel anything but strong, I suppose. It’s an odd feeling, really.”

Severus would have been lying if he said that statement didn’t bring him at least a bit of anxiety.

“Very well.” He nodded, “I’ve spent some time looking through some books……I wrote to Dumbledore too……But I think there’s someone else who may help us too.”

“Who?!” Lily asked excitedly as she looked up and turned her green, tearful eyes onto Severus.

“You may not approve.” He cautioned with a frown.

Lily’s hopeful expression faded as she exclaimed, “Oh, Severus!…….No!….Not him!….Please, surely-”

“-Lily, if anyone knows how best to deal with this, it will be the Dark Lord. I doubt Dumbledore’s had many dealings with the vampires……I don’t trust our Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor…….Who else should we go to? I haven’t the slightest idea of where to even find this man……..I’ve learned five different ways to kill one of his kind, but everything I’ve read is utterly unhelpful on how to find one, let alone a specific one.”

“Sev, you don’t have to do all this!” Lily exclaimed in exasperation, “Just let me rest tomorrow and I’m sure all be better. We’ve merely jumped to conclusions!…….I know you want revenge, but all I want is for this to end! I just want to be myself again!”

Severus frowned as Lily placed her hands on his chest and whispered, “I just wanted to be with you……That’s what I wanted that night……..That’s what I want now…..just to be with you, Sev.”

“And you will be.” Severus vowed as he placed his hands over Lily’s and gave them a squeeze despite their iciness, “I read that until you have your first taste of human blood, the transformation is not complete……..We’ll undo this before that happens, end this monster, bring you back……Then you and I can be…..us.”

As Lily blinked into Severus’s dark eyes, he knew it would be best to avert his.

He failed at his task and instead found himself staring deeper into her face, completely hypnotized by his beloved’s beauty.

“You’ll be the death of me, Lily.” He frowned in complete surrender.

Who was Severus to fight against raw, unyielding devotion?

Lily had him, he belonged to her.

Severus wouldn’t, couldn’t, have changed that simple, perhaps awful, truth.

“Unless you let me help you……us.” He whispered, his dark voice a decadent purr.

Lily scanned his face carefully as if she thought very hard.

Severus furrowed his brow as he watched a flash of something he had never seen before appear in her eyes before she closed them and withdrew.

“Help us then, Sev.” She sighed as she stepped back into the shadows.

As Severus watched her fold her arms as if to close herself off, he wondered what terrible thoughts had danced through her addled mind.

She looked towards her feet in either shame or fear, Severus could not determine which emotion was more present in her heart then, but he heard her loud and clear as she begged, “HELP US!”

After he made certain Lily would remain safely hidden in the cellar, Severus went to his room, exposed his left arm, and sighed as he took his wand into his right hand.

Mercifully, it wasn’t often he requested meetings with his dark master.

Unfortunately, his circumstances deemed such a dreadful thing to be a necessity.

Severus held the tip of his wand to his Dark Mark tattoo and waited.

Would the Dark Lord be gracious enough to recieve him that night?

……Or angered by the inconvenience?

After several moments passed and no reply came, Severus frowned while he began to think of other avenues he may pursue if-

The sensation of an invisible hand grasping his forearm overcame him suddenly.

His eyes widened as he was hurled into transport, whizzing through the air like a falling rock, before he tumbled somewhat ungracefully onto hard, unforgiving floorboards of ancient stone.

Severus glanced up at the pair of red, glowing eyes that regarded him coldly from the end of a long, wooden table.

Without recognizing the dark room he found himself in, Severus hid his tremble as he stood to his feet and dusted himself off once a familiar, surprisingly smooth voice hissed out, “Severus Snape, one of my most promising new recruits………”

“My lord, forgive me!” Severus gasped with a dutiful bow, eager to grovel, flatter, and by doing so, hopefully incur Voldemort’s favour, “As the greatest sorcerer in the world, it is only you who can help me now!”

Voldemort’s red eyes seemed to burn scarlet as an evil chuckle rang out in the dingy room.

“Sit, Severus.” Voldemort gestured as he reached a frightfully pallid hand out and pointed one of his long, crooked nails at an empty chair, “Sit.”
