Chapter 1: Convincing
Chapter Text
He’s been in and out staying at the domain. It’s nice, Mipha has been nice. As far as the domain knows, they just think he’s another friend, acquaintance maybe.
Currently, he’s sitting at the desk in Mipha’s bed chambers writing in his journal, wearing some casual clothes instead of his usual Sheikah armor. He’s been doing that since he left his position of hero. He’s also been keeping most of his things there too so he doesn’t have to carry it around all the time or hide it somewhere just to have to go back to it after he’s done with what he’s doing.
More specifically, he leaves the master sword there. Although, he never leaves out in the open. He would hide it under her water bed or off behind something.
He is also not left in the dark about anything going on inside the castle either. When Mipha comes back from being with the other champions and princess she tells him about her day and what happened. And in exchange he does the same but his days are more full of what he saw, what he found, and things that he found in the wild in general.
He’s always loved the wild.
But of course it’s not like he can go wondering into towns or villages and such. He still needs to keep a low profile and it’s not like sheikan’s are likes very much. He’s always wondered if that’ll change.
He was so lost in thought, writing in his journal, he hadn’t heard Mipha’s arrival.
“Link?” She said as she made it to his side. Link jumped a bit and turned to look at her. His round shocked eyes slowly relaxing.
“Sorry, I didn’t hear you approach.” Link signed to her.
She smiled gently at him, taking a hold of his hands, “Please, don’t apologize for something like that. It brings me relief and happiness that you find it safe enough here for you to relax that much..” She squeezed his hands before picking back up on her talking. “It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen you let loose that much.”
Link had a small smile on his face. The smile being more noticeable now; now that he’s been free to be himself.
Mipha let go of his hands before leaning down to hug him. He hugged her back, not with as equal strength as she was hugging him, but it was progress. Both of them have known each other since childhood. And seeing how much Link changed after pulling the sword that seals darkness, everything about him changed.
He went from a bright, but shy, happy kid to a kid who wasn’t aloud to make even a twinge of expression and opinions and making sure he stays in line, following rules and orders.
Standing back up, Mipha gave him a questioning smile, as if she wasn’t sure she should say what she wanted to. She did anyways though. “Link.. As much as I love you, there has to be more people than just me, Impa, and Purah that you trust. Is there truly no one else you care to inform that can help?”
He looked down at his hands in his lap for a second before responding, “The only other people that know are the great fairies and maybe all of korok forest.”
Mipha nodded, “Speaking of fairies, where’s Evi?”
Link let out a huff that sounded a lot like a laugh as he moved his hand to a bundled up cloth on the desk. He lifted up an edge of the cloth only to reveal a sleeping fairy beneath.
Gently, he put the lifted edge down. “Back on topic, are you implying that I tell someone else of my whereabouts?” Link looked unsure about this. He really didn’t know who else he could trust. Unless there really was someone else he could put his hard earned trust in?
“In my eyes, yes. I will understand if you don’t want to tell this person, I mean you never really got along but, that’s just his personality really. He’s really did care though when he heard of your disappearance and the reason why..” Mipha rambled on. Link had to think for a moment who she could be talking about. When she mentioned that this he that he never got along with, his mind went right to Revali.
”Are you saying I should tell Revali?” Link held a confused expression on his face.
“In one way or another, I do think so, but like I said you don’t have to I completely understand if you don’t want to. But after that day, he expressed his concerns to me and worry about you.” Mipha saying that shocked Link. Revali caring about him? Wow. “He may be rough around the edges but he can be a nice guy. He’s just bad at showing it.”
Link didn’t know what to say. This was a bit to much to take in. Revali has always been an asshole to him, but he supposes he’s like that with everyone. But hearing these things Revali is willing to do, is almost to hard to believe.
“Let.. Let me think about it, I’ll get back to you with an answer.”
Mipha smiled again, “Okay, I have to leave for a council meeting now. I’ll see you later.” She hugged him again before making her leave.
Revali wanting to help Link and make sure he’s okay. What a turn of events.
Time had passed and Link has made his decision. But it wasn’t going to be straight forward.
Link had gotten more info out of Mipha about Revali. About how he’s taking this situation with the hero missing and all and how he’s doing.
This apparently took a bigger impact on Revali than Link had realized. The Rito truly did care for Link and didn’t like the fact he was so blind to what was going on, that he never noticed the pain and struggle Link was going through.
Even though no one noticed. He still blames himself.
Link was back in his Sheikah attire sitting on the cliff edge of Shatterback Point, looking down at his view. He had told Mipha it was okay to tell him but he wanted to do it himself. So, she offered to send a letter to the fellow champion to invite him for lunch the following day.
It was late already and he should return back to the domain palace. Unfortunately, his nerves won’t settle. It’s been so long since he’s been able to experience so many emotions at once, it starts to become overwhelming.
Now though, he doesn’t have to hide that. He has people he can go to and can do whatever he wants to settle down. So he decided to lay back and closes his eyes.
“Link, you can’t fall asleep here.” Link heard a voice say. Startled, he opens his eyes quickly, only to be met with a fairy flying above him.
‘Ah, right, Evi was here with him. The fairy that was a gift from Cotera to ensure safety in his travels.’ He thought to himself.
To lazy to sign, Link spoke in his hoarse voice, “Not sleeping, just thinking a bit.”
That got an exaggerated sigh from the fairy. She sat on his chest and stared at him as he went back to resting his eyes.
He doesn’t even get a few seconds into his “nap” before he feels a lump of grass thrown at his face. “I said no sleeping! Go back to the domain or else. I promised I look after you and be a great friend. And that’s what I’ll be doing” She glared at him.
Link wiped the grass off his face and rolled his eyes. He got up, stretching and looked over at Evi. ”Fine. I’ll go back, jeez..”
Evi gave him a smug smile and flew over to him and sat on his shoulder. He walked them back to the domain to get some sleep.
At least Evi got sleep. Link’s mind was haunted by never ending thoughts about tomorrow.
Chapter Text
Link awoke early that morning.
Not on purpose though, he really did want to get some sleep before Revali’s visit but.. he was to stressed about it all. So, his mind only gave him three hours of sleep. He went to sleep a little past midnight and he woke up at three in the morning.
How wonderful.
Mipha was still asleep in her sleeping pool that was a couple feet away from the bed Link slept in. She had had it installed for him a long while back when he’d stay here at the domain a lot when he was a kid. Back before he pulled the master sword. But of course, that was a long time ago. Mipha though kept it in good shape over the years just in case it would be needed again. Thank goodness she did that because who have predicted that Link would run away years later and would be staying in the domain.
Quietly, Link took his bag of stuff and made his way out of bed chamber to the bathroom connected to her chambers. He might as well get ready now then never. There would be no way he’d be able to go back to sleep, he never can.
To by pass time, Link drew in a sketch book that was gifted to him by Mipha herself. Drawing was always a thing he could use to keep himself focused or distracted. A hobby no one knew about other than a few close people to him.
He was sitting out on the balcony drawing away, unknown to how many hours had past. Though, enough had past for a specific fairy and Zora princess to come waltzing up onto the balcony.
“You’re sure up early.” Mipha announced as she yawned and rubbed her eye.
Evi made her way onto Link’s shoulder and crossed her arms. “You left me all alone, jerk! I was all cold when I woke up!” She huffed out. Link flinched his head away from her as she yelled directly in his ear.
Mipha rested her arms on the balcony ledge next to where Link was sitting and softly smiled up at him. “We should get ready for Revali’s visit. I’m sure he’ll be here earlier than expected.”
Link eyed her suspiciously. Why would he be early? What exactly did Mipha say in that letter. Squinting his eyes at her in a glower, he signed. “What did you tell Revali?”
“Don’t worry about it, okay?” She told him with a smile. A smile that didn’t exactly sit right with him. He eyed her for a moment longer before finally sliding off the railing and heading back inside.
It was a quarter past seven when both him and Mipha started to get ready. Now though, it was nine o’clock. They finished getting ready just in time because their visitor was here.
Revali was sitting in a small conference room waiting for the two hosts. Mipha had made sure that all three of them, well four including Evi, were alone. Impatiently, Revali sat there, leg bouncing up and down, looking a bit disheveled.
When he had received Mipha’s letter he didn’t waste another second before setting out to the Domain. He barely took any breaks while flying down to Lanayru. Thankfully, the Domain offered food for him when he reached there. Though, he refused their offers for a place to rest while he waited. He knew he wouldn’t be able to rest thinking about what Mipha’s letter had said.
Dear Master Revali,
I have found some information about Link that may help us locate him. I dearly wish to relay this information with you, but I can not do it over letters. We may not risk this information getting out to the public for the safety of Link.
We can not let this information reach the castle.
Please, if you may, join me for lunch tomorrow, with a dear friend that has helped me gain this information. He is a very close friend of Link’s. He is just as worried about keeping Link away and out of reach of the castle reach as we are.
We will be waiting.
Sincerely,
Mipha
While reading that letter, how was he not supposed rush. What was Mipha thinking sending that with so little information but enough to have him rushing out of Rito Village.
Revali’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door to the conference room opening. In the doorway stood Mipha holding the door open for, a Sheikah? He wasn’t entirely sure. He’s never seen a Sheikah with blue eyes and light blonde hair, so light in the mist of the eye someone could probably mistake it for white. Another odd thing was the fairy accompanying them. He guesses it’s a fairy, he’s never actually seen one; only ever heard about them from tall tales.
The two made their way to the two one seat sofas on the other side of the coffee table. They both looked at each other, talking with their eyes and small gestures before looking back at Revali.
“So, are you going to explain anything or what? I don’t want to find out that I came out here for some false info.” Revali grunted out. It was very apparent to the two the lack of sleep he’s given himself.
“Well, yes, but the “dear friend” I had mentioned in the letter,” Mipha used to fingers to quotation dear friend. That raise an eyebrow in question but it went ignored. “Isn’t really a dear friend, more like a, disguise of the same person.” Mipha said nervously.
That there made the room go silent, still even. Revali looked at Mipha, unmoving. He wasn’t exactly sure what she meant by that but if his assumptions were correct… His eyes drifted to the so called dear friend.
The person in question sighed and took off his mask. He rasped out a few words to Revali, “Never knew you cared so much about me.” The amount of mirth in that boys eyes could’ve filled Revali with irritation if it wasn’t for the fact the young boy who he was deeply worried about was sitting right in front of him.
“But.. how- where—” Revali stumbled over his words as he stared wide eyed at Link. The very Link who had a gentle smile on his face, looking at him.
“I told Mipha that I wanted to tell you everything instead of her telling you over a letter.” He paused as he looked over at Mipha then back at him, “Though, I’m not aware of what she put in that letter to put you in such a spiral.”
Mipha looked away sheepishly, “I didn’t think it was that bad. Though, being that he didn’t have the amount of information I do, I suppose the letter could’ve come across as concerning.” She told him as she fiddled with her fingers.
Revali huffed as he pulled out the spoken letter, “Damn right it sounded concerning.”
He put the letter on the table for Link to read and read he did. As Link finished reading it he looked over at Mipha with an unimpressed look. The princess was obviously avoiding eye contact with either of them.
“Back on topic though,” Revali started back up. Eyes made their way back to the Rito Champion. “How long have you known where he’s been? Why do you look so different? Someone needs to explain things to me.” His feathers fluffed up a bit in his rant of questions.
The fairy, Evi, that Revali noticed earlier flew up into the middle of all of them and loudly announced, “I can explain everything to a tea for you!” Mipha and Link just let this happen so Revali assumed it was okay.
“Okay, so it’s such a long story in my opinion…”
Evi had gone a lot more in depth with the explain than Link thought she would have. There was even some things in her story that he hadn’t even told Mipha. It wasn’t on purpose that he didn’t tell her, it’s just it never crossed his mind to tell her. Even though, the both were looking at Link with disbelieved looks at the end.
“Maybe I should have done the explaining.” Link looked like he had fully given up on living at this point.
“As much as I know this isn’t the point of this, you’re actually half Sheikah?” Revali asked.
Jeez, Evi and him were really going to have to explain everything. Why couldn’t this have been more simple. I guess being a runaway future hero doesn’t make things easy in the first place.
Welp, guess it’s time to explain more of his life to others. It feels so weird, unnatural. He’s never had people that he could depend on before.
It was actually kind of..
Nice.
