Chapter Text

The confrontation with Spike hadn't left Henry's and Calvin's minds since that day. Charles and Ellie tried to talk to Henry about Spike but he would say nothing.

Calvin also wanted to talk to Henry about Spike, however, he didn't get the chance because they were all so busy. Then one day, Calvin decided to confront Henry about his past with Spike.

It was their day off, and Calvin went to Charles, Ellie, and Henry's apartment. He wore blue jeans, a plain olive green T-shirt, a black denim jacket, and brown boots. He knocked on the door and waited. He didn't have to wait long when he heard the door open, and he mentally breathed a sigh of relief that it wasn't Charles or Ellie. The last thing he needed was an angry ex and an angry ex's girlfriend to come at him.

Henry blinked in confusion as he saw Calvin, he wasn't expecting him. He was home alone since Ellie and Charles went on a date.

The duo stared at each other momentarily, and then Henry frowned. "What are you doing here, Calvin?" he asked.

"I was in the neighborhood," Calvin lied as he chuckled, he was nervous and didn't like the look on Henry's face. Henry arched a questioning eyebrow at Calvin and crossed his arms. "Yeah, right," he answered coldly, "Charles is not here so fuck off,"

Henry was about to close the door when a hand stopped the door, Henry glanced at Calvin who had a firm look on his face. "I'm not here for Charles this time," Calvin replied, "I'm here to see you,"

Henry blinked as his mouth went agape. He stared at Calvin for a few seconds, and then his expression changed. "Yeah, right," he scoffed.

"It's true!" Calvin raised his hands defensively, "I just want to talk,"

"About what?" Henry narrowed his eyes at Calvin. Calvin gulped as he stared at Henry, he had a plan to explain the confrontation between him and Spike but he was failing spectacularly. Calvin stayed silent while Henry glared at him, Calvin felt his palms sweat as Henry made an aggravated sound.

Calvin saw Henry was about to close the door again but this time, he stopped the door with his boot. Henry was about to tell him off again but Calvin slowly raised his hand and stared at Henry hard.

"Look. I want to talk to you about Spike," Calvin stated calmly.

"Why?" Henry questioned.

"I want to know why you're aggressive toward Spike," Calvin explained, "I've never seen you be aggressive before. Not even before you and Rupert became friends,"

Henry was about to open his mouth to protest but stopped, he was right. When the Government kidnaped him, he didn't put up a fight or protest. He listened and did as he was told. And the only reason is that he would be pardoned if he got evidence to take down the Toppat clan.

"You're right," Henry replied after thinking, "It's... It's that he pisses me off so much!"

Calvin saw Henry's red face and looked angry. "Why don't you vent to me about him?" he suggested. Besides, I know you didn't tell Charles and Ellie about him. So why tell me all about him?"

Henry blinked at him and looked to his side. He hadn't told Charles and Ellie about Spike yet. They did ask, but Henry wasn't ready to talk to them about Spike yet. Henry sighed as he let Calvin in. Calvin smiled. Calvin went to the couch while Henry went to the kitchen. Henry made coffee while Calvin waited patiently for Henry. Henry brought out the coffee in cups and sat down next to him.

"So... how, where, and when did you meet him?" Calvin asked.

Henry sighed, "It's a long story,"

"I got time. That's why I came here, Henry,"

Henry bowed his head, "I met him at a club even though clubs weren't my thing. I wanted to loosen up and drink," he explained, "I sat down at the bar and ordered something light then I relaxed with the drink,"

Calvin listened while drinking his coffee, "I then looked around and saw people dancing on the dance floor. There was nothing that stood out to me until I spotted him," Henry continued, "He was dancing with a guy and a girl,"

"Then what happened next?" Calvin asked.

"He spotted me and headed towards me. He sat down next to me and we hit it off,"

"How did you know he was a criminal and vice versa?"

"One day, I came home I saw Spike holding several watches that didn't belong to him," Henry replied as he drank his coffee, "And I saw the newscast of a robbery of watches,"

"Woah," Calvin said, "What did you do?"

Henry chuckled, "I interrogated him and he confessed to me,"

"But I also told him I was a thief too," Henry finished.

Calvin tried to imagine the conversation between Henry and Spike. Normally, lovers who hear their lovers are thieves don't react well. But Spike and Henry weren't a normal couple. They were thieves. Calvin saw Henry's face darken after a few minutes.

"Henry?" Calvin said, "You okay,"

"Yeah... just... the rest of the story is not happy from here on," Henry replied darkly.

"You don't have to continue if you want to," Calvin said.

"No. I have gotten this far so might as well tell you," Henry breathed in and out, "Spike and I... we were happy, being partners in crime and enjoying it as a couple,"

"However... the red flags started to appear and like a magnet, I stuck it out," Henry said, "He started becoming a massive jerk and started to get into more illegal activities,"

Calvin didn't like the sound of that.

"What?" Calvin said.

"He started dealing drugs and getting into trouble with his friends," Henry explained, "And our relationship became toxic... like poison. I wanted to get out of it but he somehow managed to get me into his schemes,"

"My mind told me to leave and get out of the situation but more money and gems... I couldn't say no," Henry paused, eyes going blank, "I couldn't escape and I blamed myself for being placed in the mess,"

Bad memories started to surface and his eyes became blurry with tears, his lip started to tremble, and he started shaking. "He was poison, he was feeding me the poison. I was getting so addicted to it that I couldn't help but swallow it. I made my choice and stayed with him,"

Calvin saw Henry was crying and without asking, he hugged Henry. "I couldn't resist another gulp of the poison," Henry said while sobbing, "It went on. Night after night. Day after day. I thought my story would end because of his poison,"

"What was the final straw, Henry?" Calvin asked gently.

Henry stopped sobbing, he was sniffing, "When he got me arrested and left me behind," he spat out.

Calvin jumped a little from the mood change, however, Henry's anger is justifiable. If a lover abandoned him and got him arrested, he would be angry and bitter. Henry sighed and wiped his eyes.

"Now you know," Henry murmured and left Calvin's embrace.

Calvin felt disappointed when Henry left the hug, he wasn't sure why. Henry got up and took the empty mugs to clean them up. He stood before Calvin, "I think you should go. Charles and Ellie are going to be home soon, I don't want them seeing you and starting a fight," he said quietly.

"Yeah, you're right," Calvin replied, he got up from the couch and headed toward the door. He opened the door and before he left, he glanced at Henry.

"I'm sorry for bringing up the painful memories. You didn't deserve that and that prick should be dead," Calvin said, "And you deserve better than that,"

Calvin left Henry alone.

Henry crossed his arms as he looked away from the door, he started trembling and sobbing again.
