Summary:

Time travel should be, in all better words, not possible.

“Let’s welcome our new family member!”

What.

The colourful banner that emphasised ‘welcome’ looked too colourful, confusing, like the brightness is now serving as a warning that something has changed, wrong but it’s right. His hands shook and his breathing quickened slightly as he took a step back from the view before him. Was it the demon? What happened, he and Mika-

This could be just his desires again.

“Hello, my name’s Mikaela! But everyone around here just calls me Mika, welcome to the family!” Mika smiled and his blue eyes – blue, it’s blue again – was so happy – unlike the red, dull eyes he’s seen.

“Hi,” he croaked out, feeling the tears nearing as he grasped warm hands, and he shook as he let out a weak smile. “My name's Yuuichirou, call me Yuu.”

Chapter 1:

“Let’s welcome our new family member!”

What?

Yuuichirou blinked and the image in front of him became clear as he stared dumbly at a young - faced Mika, a well and alive Akane and rampaging children that should’ve been dead but is alive-

… what was he doing again, he knows that something went wrong, he knows that the First did something, but Yuu wasn’t sure what happened.

This could be just his desires again.

“Hello, my name’s Mikaela! But everyone around here just calls me Mika, welcome to the family!” Mika smiled and his blue eyes – blue, it’s blue again – was so happy – unlike the red, dull eyes he’s seen and witnessed as the years progressed.

It’s so unfair. If it was before he would’ve smacked it away and declared that he will never be in this family but- Yuuichirou’s guts tells him that this isn’t a dream, it’s real, everything within him is screaming to take it and start anew. He wants his family back.

“Hi,” he croaked out, feeling the tears nearing as he grasped warm hands - warm, so warm, so warm and rough against his skin unlike the cold and smooth hands- , and he shook it as he let out a weak smile. “My name's Yuuichirou, call me Yuu.”

“Yuu-chan then!”

The children behind him cheered and Yuu gave a shaky smile as the matron ushered the others to the kitchen, sensing his tears and Yuu ducked his head down, breaths quickening before raising his head back up, taking big gulps when the caretaker rushed back and patted against his back to offer comfort. A couple of tears fell and he sobbed in fustration.

God damn it, why him? Everyone in his squad knows by now that he’s an airhead, stupid and always takes extra efforts to convince or persuade.

So why the hell is he here?

Then he took a deep breath and his mind raced back, he can’t afford to act stupid now that there’s a new reason for him to live and try his best. Because Mika is human, not a vampire yet, the apocalypse hasn’t started, Akane and the others are alive, and he isn’t forced to choose between Mika or the world.

Great. Nice, he has those reasons down and now time to think about his steps.

His stomach grumbled and Yuu moved when the caretaker took his hand and lead him to the kitchen.

Food is top priority first; he hasn’t been able to have those sponge cakes for so long and he will literally fight for the food.

Yuu waited until the kids finished their food and dragged him to the playground that’s right outside the orphanage. He felt a huge wave of nostalgia as they brought him to the slide and Yuu let them, feeling weightless without a worry now and cracked a smile at their laughs and giggling.

God. He could’ve had all of these if he didn’t shut himself in the room with Mika outside the door trying to find a chance to communicate with him.

“Yuu-chan!”

Yuu moved in an instant, tilting his head up and made eye-contact with the blue eyes who blinked at him innocently – not red, not now, not yet – and Yuu raised an eyebrow in question as the kids behind him exploded into cries of either outrage or cheers as a sandcastle crumbled.

“Do you know how to play soccer? Want to play soccer?” Mika asked, holding up a ball as the kids suddenly quietened down and perked up at the sight of the ball.

“Oh yeah soccer! Come on Yuu nii-san!”

Yuu staggered slightly at the honorific and nodded, dusting himself off and headed to his position automatically as the other kids moved around. Ah right, he shouldn’t know what the game is about…. Even if it is just kicking a ball and trying not to drop it on the ground…

He didn’t ask because Mika explained it anyway as the game started. It’s fun… the highest record of not letting the ball touch the ground was 7 but good to hear the whines and laughter from the others. He had a good laugh, and it was that night he stared up at the ceiling, waited for the other kids to sleep before he slipped out of the orphanage into the empty streets, crossed it and entered the desolated park.

The dim light flickered but Yuu tested it out anyways despite knowing that this was real.

“You can come out now.” He called out loud and waited for a second before tapping his foot, turning around and then there standing behind him was the Second.

What the hell.

“You noticed me.” Saito commented, assessing Yuu with curiosity heavily visible in his supposedly blank eyes, hair slicked back as always with his everyday suit and Yuu stared back at him blankly before blurting out.

“No not you, who the heck are you.”

The crickets continued to chirp in the background and Saito stared at Yuu dumbfoundedly while Yuu stared back at him in confusion.

What the heck, did the vampire just out himself accidentally because Yuu just asked his imaginary demon to come out.

“Huh.” Saito said and gave a smile, jazzed his hands as an element of surprise before Yuu suddenly blanked out, a hand in front of his face and he can actively feel that his memory is being erased of this encounter.

Oh no.

The next morning, he woke up with a crick in his neck, strangely annoyed and ruffled for some reason, meditated a bit in the bathroom to avoid the strange sense of eyes following him and concluded that the vampire who visited Mika back then, the one that supposedly delivered him has erased his memories for whatever reason.

Okay, anyways, he needs to figure out how to stop Guren and his friends dying so Guren won’t resurrect them but here comes the greater problem.

How does he do that, he doesn’t even know where the majority of the strongholds are, doesn’t have permission to go overseas and how to even contact them. Yuuichirou left the bathroom and headed back into the playroom room, seating himself beside Mika, smiled and let the children’s chatter fade into the background as he focused onto his sheet of maths.

He stared at the maths and scrunched up his nose, not wanting to do anything but…. A memory of Kimizuki’s test score with 100% was shoved into his face and Yuu stared at the maths sheet before him. Screw it, he’s learning this, he’ll also focus on class more once he gets into the Demon Army.

In absolutely no way is he going to lose to Kimizuki this round!

Chapter Text

Should he just let the apocalypse take place then?

Yuuichirou stared at the empty paper before him and doodled a small flower while Akane attended to the other kids, scribbling flowers.

“Yuu-chan?”

Yuuichirou blinked and looked up, “Yeah? What’s up?”

Mika raised a stack of papers, children’s drawings on them and beamed. “Want to help me pin them up?” Yuuichirou huffed and got up, following Mika into the main playroom, and headed for the tub of safety pins before the two of them got to work.

“I think we’re going to have curry for dinner tonight!”

“Hm, yeah?”

“Yeah! The director commented that we could even chose what desert we want afterword’s!”

“Huh, that’s nice.”

“Yeah, I know right? Ne Yuu-chan?”

“What is it?”

Mika lowered the drawing and looked him in the eyes. For a moment, Yuu wanted to cry at the sudden intensity, but Mika held out his hand. “What I say may sound very uhm, intruding but I want to get this fact into your head.”

Then he clasped Yuu’s hand and Yuu stared down at the intertwined hands, dumbfounded.

“You’re my family Yuu-chan, if you have anything that’s building up inside you and needs to be said, say it, we won’t judge, we all went through harsh things that brought us here, so you’re allowed to feel safe.”

Yuu stared at Mika who in return, stared back at him. Then with a single sob from Yuu, Mika stepped forward and wrapped his arms around the shaking boy who buried his head between Mika's shoulder and neck.

Akane ushered some of the kids, like Kota, that came towards the door to see what’s going on, away from the door, letting Yuu get used to this type of affection because who knows what the boy has gone through.

Yuu sniffed and accepted the tissue from Mika before blowing his nose loudly as the matron passed a tray of cookies with a cup of warm milk. Yeah, he could get used to this, but really, he should find out how to hunt down Guren considering how close the apocalypse date is, but he doesn’t even know where to start.

He rocked back and forth in his blanket and let Mika do the talking, watched the animated movements, and decided something stupid.

“Ne Mika?”

“Hm?”

“What happens if I say I’m a time traveler?”

“Like the ones in the movies?”

“Yeah.”

“You have to prove it first for me to believe you.”

“Ehhh?”

Yuu stared at Mika and frowned. “Just like that?”

“Just like that.” Mika confirmed and Yuu contemplated it a bit, wondering what he should say considering if he tells Mika that he’s lived several million years ago, he wouldn’t believe it… nor would he believe that drank blood as a vampire.

“You don’t like veggies, but you eat it anyway in order to encourage the kids to eat it.” Yuu tried, Mika blinking at him before frowning.

“Yeah, but I’ve always been eating veggies around you for the past few days, you would’ve noticed.”

“Oh yeah? What about the fact that you like canned tuna?”

“Akane could’ve told you that.”

“You know a person named Mr Saito and he’s a dangerous person.”

“Matron could’ve mentioned him and why is he a dangerous person?”

“Because- “

Yuu cut himself off and pondered how he should break this down. Can’t really tell him that they’ve all been locked up in cells but had their memories erased because of something called the Seraph project and Saito is a vampire.

Yeah.

Yuu pouted and Mika laughed, tackling Yuu roughly, careful of the glass of milk and beamed.

“Don’t worry Yuu-chan, I’ll keep that fact in my memories forever, but you haven’t convinced me just yet!”

Yuu’s pout deepened as Kota appeared behind the doorway again, saw them hugging and raced towards them, calling out a cuddle pile and soon the other kids popped up, heading towards them with Akane holding a camera in the background with the matron smiling.

Yuu didn’t notice it clearly, but he could’ve sworn she was smiling rather sadly. Well, she is part of all this experiment thing. He waited for a few minutes, accepting the warmth as Mika held onto them tighter with the kids snuggling wherever they could stuff their face before Yuu finally had enough.

“Nope!” He exclaimed and began struggling underneath the blankets, the kids whining and fighting back to stay a while longer, but Yuu was quite silently suffocating beneath the warmth.

“No! Enough! I’m dying with no air!”

The kids giggled and fought harder; Mika soon being announced as the tickle monster and will tickle any evil tiny children that doesn’t allow Yuu to breathe, aka, getting off him.

Hah, yeah, this is what Yuu continued to live for.

...

Okay, they should REALLY get off him now-

Chapter Text

Unfortunately, he’s going to have to let the apocalypse happen. Like, he literally doesn't know where the strongholds are and what's he gonna do, storm in and cry for Guren?

Surprisingly it hasn’t started yet considering how the director immediately fell shortly after he arrived.

Yuu pursed his lips as the teacher droned on in front of him about useless information he had painfully relearnt when he first… came back? Time Travelled? All this thinking is hurting his brain.

“Yuuichirou, please look up and pay attention.”

Yuu blinked and scowled, shifting his body upright and faced the whiteboard sullenly as his teacher nodded in satisfaction.

Teacher’s are evil.

Yuu stared blankly at the board before him as she began to go over the colours shaped in specific numbers and had the children pair up to recognise the number and colours.

He turned around and faced an expectant Mika, sighed, huddled together and they began to do their work.

“This is a 9 and the colour is red.” Mika observed, placing the card down as Yuu picked up the next one.

“Number 11 with the colour purple.”

“Number 1 with yellow.”

“8 with green.”

“4 with orange.”

“3 with pink.”

“10 with blue.”

“This is boring.”

“Yuu-chan, please focus.”

“Hey Mika, 11 plus 9.”

“That’s 20, Yuu-chan, 8 plus 7?”
“That’s 15. What’s 9 plus 3.”

“12, what’s 7 plus 6.”

“13-.”

A timer rang and different choruses of ‘nooo’ with a lot of whining about not having enough time filled the air as Mika calmly picked up the cards, shuffled them up and stuffed them into the box Yuu was holding.

“You’re really smart Yuu-chan.” Mika praised as they headed back into the centre of the seating mat.

“That’s a lie and you know it, I can’t believe people call you a genius if you think that.”

“It’s exactly why I’m a genius for knowing that you’re smart.”

Yuu scowled, knowing it’s a lost cause to try and argue with Mika as kids, he fiddled with the edge of his sleeve and looked outside the window at the fresh green leaves before turning back to the teacher. Soon there’ll be no green leaves, only snow covered branches and fresh red seeping into the cracks of the pavements.

There’s a reason why Mika thought he was smart after all, he just has the mind of an adult. In reality he’s just dumber than the average.

Yuu let out a shaky breath and held onto Mika’s sleeves for support, relishing the fact that Mika’s alive and beside him. Mika moved a bit, his eyes meeting Yuu’s as he held onto his fingers for support.

The two turned back to the teacher and Yuu let out a small smile at the bubbly feeling inside him.

.

.

.

The snow fell and then the first few signs of the apocalypse began.

It had been nearly a month since their school had announced they’re near holidays, expressing genuine joy that Christmas will be here soon as the children had gleefully chatted about Christmas, but all Yuu felt was dread.

Two days before what he remembered as the apocalypse, he had asked the director pleadingly for a thin waist pouch because apparently ‘it looked cool’ and would be easier to carry things around. That was not a lie.

The moment he was certain the matron brought it and had wrapped it up, he tracked down the location of it, unwrapped it, tucked knives into it before wrapping it back up. Knives won’t do any damage to vampires, but he would be damned if he can’t sneak it into that god forsaken place.

And speaking of sneaking things in, he decided to test his luck by chucking in packets of dried fruits in there and prayed for the best. Yuu still doesn’t believe in god despite a literal angel in him and meeting demons that reside in his heart, but he prays that his family will live.

Then on that day, when Yuu and Mika had been carrying the kids home, a television flickers and brings the news of increasing rates of death spread throughout Japan, China, Russia and throughout every other countries or places it can reach.

Yuu didn’t hesitate and yelled at the others to run. His panic sent the other children into panic, all following him blindly and as soon as he yelled to run, a store owner beside them choked, hand going up to his throat and blood gushed out with a horrible choking sound.

It trickled down the pavement and Akane cried, grabbing two kids away by their arms to avoid it as the man staggered towards them.

“Akane, come on!” Mika yelled, his eyes rushing over the fallen body.

They rushed through the streets to the orphanage, their home. Akane rushed in, opening the door and urged the children in as Mika was the last one to follow, double checking their surroundings before closing the door.

“Yuu nii-san? What’s happening?” One of the younger kids, Chihiro, asked fearfully as Mika went ahead with Akane to lock all the windows.

Yuu crouched down and faced the children, putting a brave smile on his face as he held them. “It’s fine, we’ll be okay. There’s something happening outside and we don’t want to get caught okay? Think of it as hide and seek yeah?”

“Okay!”

Yuu patted their heads, ignored his shaking hands and quickly told them to hide upstairs under their bed or in their closet and boxes of clothes.

“Yuu-chan?”

Yuu turned around and faced the other two. Akane stared at him, hoping for questions to be answered while Mika stared at him grimly.

“What’s going on, please.”

Yuu swallowed and before he opened his mouth, there was a crash in the kitchen, two halls away from them and Yuu tensed up, grabbing the nearest weapon - a lamp -, and rushed into the kitchen, ignoring the shouts for his name only to find the matron vomiting blood.

“Oh my god,” Akane gasped as she entered the room, hands over her mouth as Mika burst into the room, paled and immediately rushed to grab a kitchen towel.

“Here, lift her up into a sitting position.” Mika instructed and Akane quickly bent down, Yuu stared before snapping out of his daze. He berated himself and immediately bent down, ignoring the whispers in his mind saying how they can't rescue her anymore.

It barely took another 5 seconds for the matron to stop breathing.

It took another 5 seconds for Yuu to blurt out everything, his time travel, how he begged them to not think he was crazy, how he lived through it before and how he has seen all the others die.

“I-I really don’t know why but please, please believe me!” Yuu begged, his hands quivering as he gripped onto the end of his shirt shakily and Akane collapsed against the floor, legs weak. Yuu sobbed, tears flowing down because he is not able to do this. He’s not a planner, he misses Shinoa, Kimizuki and god, he misses Guren.

He misses them all. He misses his Mika.

Mika was silent by the end of that, staring at the floor and Akane burst into tears and Yuu joined her, his breathing quickening and he quickly made his decision. Yuu grabbed them by the arms, ignoring the startled cries and quickly took them upstairs.

“Here, get in now.” Yuu rasped as he quickly pushed them in, and stared as his younger siblings grasped onto Akane and Mika’s clothes.

“Yuu nii-san?” Fumie asked, her voice small and shaky as she stared with wide eyes.

Yuu took a step backwards and looked at Mika who was leaning down to reassure Taichi that they’ll be fine. Yeah, they’ll be fine. He looked up and met Akane’s eyes before turning around.

“Wait-”

Yuu rushed down the stairs to the christmas tree, skidding across the hallway and kept an eye out for any fast movements outside the window, instantly spotting the present and tore through the wrapping paper. He didn’t waste another second after that, quickly running back upstairs and took extra care to silence his footsteps.

He knocked on the bedroom door, his green eyes wildly scanning the hallway and the door opened.

Mika grabbed him by the shoulders and quickly ushered them to the closet.

“Don’t-,” Akane choked and quickly grabbed Yuu’s arms as the other children began to cry from stress. “God, Yuu, don’t do that again, don’t rush off please.” She begged and her entire body shook from her sobs while Mika held onto Yuu as if he was his lifeline.

“Please.” Mika whispered, hunched over to other children while wrapping his arm on Yuu’s shoulder.

Yuu sobbed and gripped onto the bag, thanking the matron over and over again for the gift and for giving him this family.

“I’m sorry,” he rasped and hunched over the other kids. “I’ll try not to do it again, I’m so sorry guys.”

Akane let out another sob and quickly ushered the children into the closet, placing piles of clothes on top of them as Mika got up again and re-arranged the bed to block the window.

It was a tight squish.

It’ll be fine.

Somehow Yuu knows that they’ll be taken away again. Unfair.

A shatter and scream across the street made them all freeze from fear and Yuu immediately got up, rushing towards Mika and grabbed him before rushing back to the closet.

“...no, no please! SOME HELP-”

Mika rushed back and covered his younger siblings' ears as the sound of human scream was cut off in the street. It sounded like a kid.

God it was a kid.

Akane flipped off the switch and they sat in dark, in fearful silence, hearts hammering like rabbits. Mika closed his eyes and held onto Akane’s hands for insurance. Yuu stared at his younger siblings, leaned down and placed a finger over his mouth.

Sshh.

Bless the children for listening because they instantly placed their hands over their mouths.

He closed the closet door, gesturing to them to all bend down as low as they could.

A loud shatter ripped through the heavy silence and all the kids flinched.

Glass littered across the floor as a rustle was heard. They could tell someone had entered.

Akane quickly pressed up against the younger children against the wall as Mika crouched in front with Yuu right behind him. Footsteps echoed through the empty place, stepping on the glass as an amused murmur carried across the room.

“My, I wonder where children will be hiding in an orphanage.”

Yuu pursed his lips and his hands slowly dropped down to hide the bag underneath his clothes and held onto Mika’s hand as a sought of assurance.

Fuck, he forgot. Last time they left the orphanage to hide. But this time they stayed in here, it was practically screaming for the vampires to come and get them.

The footsteps continued, slow humming filled the room and the children huddled closer.

That’s when Yuu closed his eyes in brief realisation. The vampire was playing with them, it already heard their silent breathy sobs and thumping heartbeats.

It already knew where they were.

Yuu had managed to hear Guren’s heartbeat from far away and figured out his location before as a demon. A vampire could easily match up to that.

It didn’t take another second for a hand to crash through the wooden door, they all shrieked, especially the younger children before they were all scrambling backwards.

Akane screamed again, her hands shook when the hand pulled back and stabbed at the wall right above her head, sobbing as the hand removed itself before rushing back in with another hole placed above their measly heads.

Scrambling backwards while Kota began to cry harder. Yuu quickly placed his body over them and lo and behold, the hand crushed against the wood again but this time retracting again only to pull the door with him.

The closet door was torn into shreds when it made contact with the floor, wood splinters joining the glass shards and Yuu let out a shuddered breath in realisation that he was scared.

Scared despite facing death over and over again.

But he was weak, he could get crushed easily and wouldn’t even be able to help his family.

Red eyes gleamed and a smile stretched so wide it made the kids freeze in fear. Mika backed away, slipping on a clothing as Fumie let out another sob and hiccuped.

“Hello,” the vampire whispered and a hand lowered, tucking away the stray hair that belonged to Akane who instantly tensed and backed away. The vampire’s smile only grew wider, flashing his fangs and Kota’s breathing began to quicken. “A pity you had to catch me at this moment… but I’m quite thirsty.”

Chapter 4

Summary:

or in which there's some sadness and there's some crack.

I need to write Shinoa and Mika interactions in advance, it's going to be awesome

Chapter Text

Yuu’s blood thudded against his ears and Mika realised the unfortunate route that will happen to one of them, anyone of them. Judging by Akane’s tight but trembling grip on every one of their siblings, she must have figured it out as well.

“How about you then?”

Kota collapsed when a space beside her suddenly opened up, letting out a cry and Mika gasped, hand clasping onto empty air as the vampire lifted up the youngest. Taichi.

Akane let out a horrified sound, instantly getting up only to get dragged back down by Chihiro, who was crying in fear, voice wavering and Kota babbled pleadingly, to let them go, to let them live-

“No-!” Yuu shouted, rushing up and then his back was slammed down against the floor, wood digging into his fragile back, nails digging tightly into his skin and he froze at the blood that dripped onto him before Taichi slumped down as a sharp crack resonated through the room.

“NO! STOP! GET YOUR HANDS OF HIM YOU FILTHY VAMPIRE!-” Yuu screamed, eyes burning and Mika sobbed, holding out his hands just in time to catch the fallen body of Taichi. “NO! NO TAICHI! DAMN IT LET ME GO!”

Akane’s mouth was opened, vocals failing her as she gripped tightly onto the children and stared at the cooling body of her sibling. Yuu cried, his voice suddenly hoarse as he wrestled against the hands that digged into his skin. His bones, before he was picked up again and slammed against the floor again.

“NO!” Mika screamed, rushing up only to be held down by another vampire by their foot.

“Toying with your food again?” It asked and the vampire only snorted, eyeing the boys before looking back up.

“Well yes, blood always tastes delicious if they’re scared, it’s a pity only the kids survived this.”

The other vampire bent down, his hand resting on Tachi’s neck and huffed.

“Be grateful he’s alive or Queen Krul will have your head.”

The vampire snarled at the mention of Queen Krul, realising that he has in fact, made a mistake before huffing, leaving whatever mess he left and Mika sobbed in relief, feeling the faint heartbeat produced within Tachi and leaned against the others.

Then a speaker sounded, announcing a virus that kills all adults and Yuu stared at the body before him, the world deafened around him as he was picked up again by the vampires. Akane was dragged away, forced to let go of her other siblings while Mika scrambled to escape their grasp.

Yuu closed his eyes when he heard the pained shouts of ‘no!” and ‘stop! Let us go!’

Fuck.

He’s such a failure. Couldn’t even find a single name related to the headquarters or anything about the Hiiragi family.

Yuu can’t believe his choices, why did he not try harder? His breath quickened and tears escaped through the corner of his eyes as they were dragged through the streets and passed along in the truck, witnessing the adults around them vomit and choke within their own pool of blood.

But then again what can he do? He’s a kid, an idiot.

.

.

.

“Next.”

Yuu stepped forward, dressed back once again into the clothes that signified them as livestock and stated his name. A beep of the monitor before him indicated nothing wrong and he left the line, stepping up ahead and waited as Mika finished stating his name to catch up.

He lifted up his hand and pulled at the sickening white, at the leather collar and his skin crawled with disgust at the familiar material wrapped around him.

Disgusting. Revolting. Sickening.

Yuu’s going to get out and burn this horrendous clothing before his eyes.

As soon as they both turned around, Yuu let out a sigh of disappointment.

The pouch was taken.

That machine does in fact search for additional metal because they already have metal pieces but with identifications imprinted on them, it’ll just beep out in any warning so it was taken away.

“Yuu-chan?”

Yuu’s eyes flickered up and met Mika’s bright blue eyes and gave a smile.

He ignored the burning feeling of being watched and followed Mika onwards, soon arriving at the point where the rest of their family was waiting and left to find a place to stay.

Akane offered to piggyback one of their younger siblings and soon the kids all latched onto a hand. All of them ached from the empty hand that swung empty in the air, the hand that Taichi would have latched onto by now.

Kato sniffled and Chihiro started silently crying. Yuu gritted his teeth and looked down as they quickly went through the alleys, the green eyed boy leading the way as if he’s always been living here.

Mika looked down at the hand, gritted his teeth because their youngest was sent to the hospital, bedridden and looked up at Yuu’s back as they entered the house. Blue eyes gleaming before it was lowered again.

They walked in.

.

.

.

“Yuu-chan.”

Both boys ignored the way Akane shifted to attention the moment his name was called. The kids were upstairs now, sleeping after the vampire had left when it finished delivering their basic essentials.

Yuu hummed silently in the silence and Mika moved a chair, sitting in front of him. His smile didn’t reach his eyes.

“You said you time-travelled,” Mika began and Yuu’s hands shook slightly, reminded of his mistakes as Taichi was stuck in the godforsaken place, most likely not even taken care of properly, only allowed enough to live and produce blood.. “Can you tell us?”

Akane paused her clean-up, turned around and sat down. Her eyes were still puffy from the early crying sessions and Yuu stared at the hands, fiddling around with his fingers and looked up at Mika. At his serious expression.

At that moment, Yuu was sure that Mika hated him.

“Yeah. Yeah I can.” Yuu said, his voice breaking and his eyes stung. “It began when I appeared at the orphanage, y'know? The apocalypse had happened on that day instead of being much later so it gave me time to think.”

He blinked away the tears and sobbed.

“I didn’t know how to stop it, it started with Guren’s friend's death which caused him to revive them. This caused the mass world catastrophe we see now.” Yuu chuckled.

“Billions of human death just for the revival of his squad.”

Akane’s hands shook but she placed her hand on top of Yuu’s shoulders.

“What can we do?”

And so like the gate that finally can’t contain the water, the flood came and Yuu told them from the start, every detail, their lives, their escape, their deaths, his growth when he escaped and learning humans are still alive outside, joining the vampire extermination army, meeting Mika, his new family, learning about the vampire ranks, an all out war, how they were experiments, demons, angels, the laws of the world-

He continued all the way till he learnt about how he and Mika somehow learnt about the history of the beginning, where vampires came from and that’s when he stopped.

He broke off.

Yuu stared at Mika and smiled bitterly. “Hey, remember Saito?”

Mika’s eyes sharpened, “Mr Saito? What’s wrong with him?”

Yuu chuckled bitterly and Akane came to the conclusion instantly. “He’s a vampire?” She asked hesitatingly and Mika faltered as Yuu nodded.

“Yeah, Saito is a vampire, I don’t remember what rank clearly but it was either the second or third.”

Mika stared at Yuu before looking back down, sighed, before he lifted up both his hands and smacked his cheeks. The sharp sound startled Yuu and Akane just as Mika put his hands back down.

Yuu’s breath hitched. Wow, he hasn’t seen Mika with that determined expression in so long.

But then again, being a vampire takes away all sense of your human emotions till none is left.

“So what I have learnt is that everything is practically nearly a lie but it’s okay.” Mika announced before beaming at Yuu and taking Akane’s hand, pulling her over and giving them both the biggest and tightest hugs. “I have you guys, I know that’s not fake.”

Oh fuck, Yuu’s going to cry again.

Yuu shook and buried his head into the shoulders of Mika as Akane held onto both of them in return.

“We’ll survive.” She vowed and leaned her head against Mika’s other shoulder as well, bringing her arm up to hold onto Yuu’s head, patting it as Mika tightened his grip around their waists.

“We’ll survive.”

Yuu let out a muffled agreement before looking back up, his green eyes glistening with tears but face hardened.

“I remember the way out of this place, but we need to wait for about a year before moving.” Yuu rasped, making a face at his weird voice before clearing his throat. Mika let out a small snort and held out a hand in defence when Yuu punched him in the ribs gently.

“We also need to learn about the vampire’s night routines if we want to get Taichi out.” Yuu muttered, his memory not providing enough information regarding what he remembered, slumping down at the fact that he just failed to help protect his family again.

Mika hummed, his eyes flickering over to the windows before flickering back down and pursed his lips.

“Yuu-chan?”

Yuu’s eyes met his blue eyes and instantly, the green-eyed boy felt a rock sinking down to the pit of his stomach.

“How did I get access to the map and the gun?”

Yuu grimaced, scrunched his nose and turned away.

Akane raises her eyebrow.

“...Fine, Mika offered his blood to one of the disgusting vampires, the one I hate the most, in order to get things for the family, he sneaked out the gun and the map once.” Yuu answered, gritting his teeth at the reminder that Ferid, that bastard, had touched Mika.

Disgusting, perverted, asshole.

Yuu huffed and straightened up, “I’ll offer my blood this time to get what the family needs.”

“Absolutely not.”

Yuu drew back, appalled by Mika’s declaration and stood up, the chair rattling backwards.

“What?! Why not?”

Mika deadpanned, planted his hands on his hips and raised his eyebrow.

“No offence but who would want your blood, your brash personality does not help either.”

Yuu stared, suddenly hit with a sudden realisation that Shinoa and Mika are going to get along very well because what the hell, these two teases him too much, even their words match.

Akane snorted in the background and Yuu resigned himself to the fact that he’s always going to get teased.
