Chapter 31: The End

Notes:

So I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll probably never finish writing this. It’s been like 5 years. For a bit of perspective, I started writing this my senior year of high school and now I’m finishing up a Master’s degree (in archaeology if anyone’s curious). I haven’t actually watched the show since around that time either. I think the last full season I watched was season 9? I honestly can’t remember. Anyway, I knew I wasn’t going to finish this, but I also did have an outline planned out and I didn’t want to leave it completely hanging. So this chapter is a detailed outline about what I planned for this story and it’s sequel. So spoilers ahead I guess? Feel free to not read it if you want to hold onto the minuscule chance that in 5 years, I have a new vigor for writing or if you want to imagine how it ends yourself. Do however check out the authors not at the end, where I give blanket permission for anyone to write in this universe if they want.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Please read the author’s note about this chapter because major spoilers follow.

So this story was supposed to be around 45 chapters long. I’ll go through what I planned for each chapter in more detail below. However the main plot climax was supposed to start around chapter 36.

Chapter 31
This chapter was supposed to be the consequences of the hunt from Sam’s point of view. We would also hear some rumblings about the Angels stirring and Micheal and Gabriel would have a quiet, worried conversation about it.

Chapter 32
I called this a Dean interlude. Basically it’d follow Dean on a solo hunt, and there’d also be a seen in a bar in San Francisco of Dean being a bisexual disaster and having a gay panic. However since Mary and John have always been supportive, it wouldn’t last that long and he’s feel comfortable enough to come out to his parents in a few months.

Chapter 33
All the kids meet up at the Roadhouse again. It would be both awkward and cute. Dean and Sam would grow closer and Ellen would keep a sharp eye on them for any more escapades.

Chapter 34
This would be a Sam training chapter. Where Gabriel really emphasizes the importance of being able to hide his grace. He’d also teach Sam the theory behind creating an angel blade from his grace, though Sam wouldn’t actually be able to do it until after his grace had settled after puberty (like 18 or 19).

Chapter 35
This would be a girls interludes with bonding between Ellen, Mary, Anna, and Jo while the guys are all off doing something. Also Ellen has the puberty talk with Anna becuase Micheal tried and failed miserably.

Chapters 36 - 45

Basically the other angels (under orders from Raphael) finally figure out where Micheal is and try to bring him back to Heaven. When he refuses to go, a fight breaks out and he’s forcefully brought back. Luckily both Anna and Sam remain undetected by the other angels because they’re at school and angels aren’t really great at picking up context clues about humans so they don’t realize that there’s signs of two kids also living in the motel room. Also by this point Sam is really good at hiding his grace so they don’t pick up on it’s traces in the motel room. When Sam and Anna get back from school, it doesn’t take Sam long to realize what happened because he picks up the traces of foreign grace (The other angels weren’t too concerned about being subtle).
As soon as Sam realizes what happened he grabs Anna and their stuff and immediately head for Bobby’s. Because Micheal is an over-planner, he’s planned for every worse case scenario, this being one of them. Basically Sam knows to go straight to Bobby and tell him what happened, and other than a single phone call to tell him what happened, to not contact Gabriel in case the Angels are on alert for increased Grace presence on Earth.
Once at Bobby’s, Sam tells him that his dad has been captured by creatures that have always been hunting them and there’s nothing they can do to get him back. Bobby takes this in stride because, again Micheal is an over-planner, and had told him that this may happen without giving away too many details about who was after them. Bobby then gives Sam a letter from Micheal that Micheal had left with Bobby in case this ever happened. Sam reads the letter, which was going to be very emotional and finally reveal to Sam that he’s a Winchester and everything that happened to him when he was a baby and attempt to explain the choices Micheal made. Also in the letter are letters addressed to Bobby, Mary, and Anna (to be given to her when she’s 18, that has the location of her grace). The letters to Bobby and Mary basically explain everything to them, though Micheal spends a significant portion of Mary’s letter apologizing to her. Sam is obviously completely shocked by all this information and just kind of freezing for a bit trying to process it all. When Bobby asks if he’s alright he just hands Bobby his letter and says “I think we need to call Mary Winchester”.
So Bobby calls Mary and tells her that she and John need to get over to his place ASAP because he has a lead on Sam. So obviously they grab Adam and rush to Bobby’s (Dean’s on a solo hunt, but they leave a message on his cell phone. It’s 1999). When they get there Bobby just gives Mary the letter and as she reads it she starts crying. When she’s done she just stares at Sam for a bit who kind of just awkwardly standing in the corner because how does one approach they’re newly discovered mom, especially when she’s found out you’re not fully human. When she looks at him he a gives a kind of awkward wave and smile and she breaks down even more and pulls him to a hug. Sam is shocked but kind of likes it. Meanwhile John has started reading Mary’s discarded letter and as soon as he’s done also joins the hug. They then explain to a very confused Adam and Anna and it is all very emotional and heart warming. Sam then tells them what he knows about the Angels taking Micheal. They then leave another voicemail for Dean saying hey you really need to get to Bobby’s, we have a big lead on Sammy (They don’t want to say too much on the phone). Huh wonder why Dean’s not picking up?
Meanwhile Dean hasn’t checked his phone since that morning because he had a hunt and is now celebrating the successful conclusion of said hunt at a college bar with some very pretty young people because at this point he’s 20 years old and the perfect age for it. And who should be flirting with him but a pretty young college girl with a blonde pixie cut named Meg? So they go back to his motel room and realizes he has a voicemail. Dean listens to it and is about to turn around and tell Meg sorry but he has to go, but never gets the chance because Meg knocks him out. Meg was originally just supposed to gather intel on Dean, but now she knows the Winchesters have a lead on Sam and Yellow Eyes has also been looking for Sam for like 16 years. So the new plan is to use Dean as a bargaining chip to get figure out where Sam is.
Now we’re back to the Winchester’s and Sam. It’s the morning after everything went down and they’re starting to worry that they haven’t heard from Dean. They then get a phone call from Yellow Eyes basically saying I’ve got your son and I’ll trade him for information on Sam’s whereabouts. Obviously they’re gonna go rescue Dean. They call Ellen to come up and watch Anna and Adam and head out after some planning (Anna’s 12 and can make sure Adam doesn’t accidentally kill himself until Ellen gets there).
So this is where my outline get much less detailed and defined. I never did lay out how exactly they rescue Dean but it involves and impressive display of Sam’s powers. Meg and Yellow Eyes are exorcised by Sam. And for some reason, maybe his angel blood?, it’s a really strong exorcism so they’re not gonna be able to get out of hell for at least 6 years (aka around the time season 1 starts). Then there’s a heartwarming reunion scene where Dean finally learns that Sam’s his brother and though he doesn’t admit it the waterworks definitely come out.
In the epilogue we learn that both Sam and Anna are now living with the Winchesters at the bunker. Mary’s never had a daughter before and honestly she kind of like having another feminine presence in the bunker. Sam and Dean are nigh inseparable for the first couple of months (Mary and John are definitely clingy too). Eventually they let Sam and Dean occasionally go on hunts together when Sam’s not in school because they realize that while Sam is younger than they usually let kids hunt, he already has some hunting experience and also has insane powers. Gabriel still occasionally shows up as the crazy uncle, he just has more nephews now.

When I first started writing this, I had also tentatively planned out a sequel. That definitely not happening now, but here’s the few thoughts I have on it.

It was basically going to follow along with seasons 1-5 but within this universe. Seasons 1-3 in a fic called Exodus and season 4-5 in a fic called Revelations. Sam still goes to Stanford but this time with his family’s blessing, and still hunting with Dean when he can. The plan this time is to become a defense attorney who hunters can call up for help when they get into trouble themselves, while still hunting on the side with Dean. Adam still goes into pre-med and Anna into journalism though that’s more of a side plot. I don’t know if she decided to get her grace back. In this story she’s had a pretty decent and loving human life. Maybe it’s a decision she makes under duress during the apocalypse? Also Anna is very Gay and probably fooled around with Jo a bit during their teenage years through that never really came to anything. I hadn’t really decided whether to include Jess or not, but if I had I’m sure Mary would have loved her. By this point with Sam having been found, Mary has moved into a more supporting role for the hunting community, but she occasionally still goes out with John. I hadn’t yet figured out what to do with John. I really didn’t want to kill him cause he was actually a good dad in this fic, but it does provide a lot of character/plot motivation.
I had two directions to take with the whole Lucifer deal. The first was he was still a bad guy, except he runs into a lot of issues since his true vessel has a grace of his own and thus actually can’t be a vessel. Meanwhile the Lucifer plot is balanced with a plot of them trying to figure out how to break Micheal out of Heaven. Once Cas joins the group he helps with this. He and Dean still have a lot of homeostatic tension though they figure that out much more quickly and less toxically than in the show. (I don’t even watch the show anymore, but I still saw all the memes and I’m sorry for ya’ll).
The second direction was that Lucifer kind of mellowed out during his time in the cage and when he learns that big brother also broke from Dad’s plan and is currently in heaven jail, he joins up with the Winchester’s and Gabriel to break Micheal out. Also his new nephew is kind of fun, and hell if he’s letting Gabriel be the cool uncle. So the series becomes Lucifer/Winchesters/Gabriel against heaven with Raphael as the big bad. The demons aren’t so cool with Lucifer abandoning the apocalypse so one of his underlings takes on the king of Hell role and tries to do the apocalypse with heaven.

Notes:

So thats it. Sorry I couldn’t actually write it out but at least now you know what I had planned. I’m opening up this sand box for anyone to play with if they so wish (that includes translations, I’ve gotten a couple of requests over the years). So if inspiration strikes and you want to finish it or write the sequel feel free to do so. Just please link it in the comments so anyone who wants to find it can!
