Summary
The stories sometimes merged in her memory. The Dalish ones she heard time and time again at the Keeper’s side, in which he prowled the darkness, a lonely and jealous wolf, peering always to the crackling campfire because he had no kith and no kin; the older ones, gleaned from fragmentary texts in hidden grottoes and ancient libraries, in which a man took up a heavy mantle and forged himself a sword, and with the blood of his life he made and spent his friends in the shadows, fighting his long undefeat; the ones from her waking life, where he waited at the sidelines of her throne room wearing the skin of a friend, all the while steadily moving them like pawns towards the confluence of disaster; and still there were others that she did not know, not being educated in Towers or Palaces or Circles, the stories pulled out of the Fade by Orlesian poets or Tevinter playwrights, where a reluctant rebel sought to take down the gods and spread the fires of divinity amongst his people, only to rip open the seams that held their world.
Solas falls in love. Solas walks into the Veil. Solas soothes the blight.

Summary
Here is a song called Of Finrod and Bëor, also called by some, Of Finrod and the Coming of Men, as was still sung in Rivendell in the Third Age of the world. It is but a fragment from the Lay of Felagund, which told the story of Finrod Felagund in full. It was first cast into Sindarin in Imladris by some of the High Elves who dwelt there for a time, and later into Westron.
I: Of Finrod tarrying in Ossiriand
II. Of Finrod spying Men in the woods
III: Of Finrod's song of Valinor
IV: Of the conversation of Finrod and Bëor
V: Of the disquiet of the Green-elves and the passing of Men into Beleriand
VI: Of the death of Finrod Felagund and the deeds of the House of Bëor

Summary
The arrow shoots straight, but in the brief arc of its flight, it flexes ever this way and that, undulating in the air as if straining against the bonds of its mark. And yet what mark it finds, it finds, and strays not from its fate, and so do you, Túrin, in all your struggles, bend ever toward your doom.
Thrice would Beleg find Túrin in the wild unbidden.

Empire Falling by zambla

Summary
A series of R/S AUs set in the 20 century, during the successive fall of the British Empire. Each story stands alone, though there are threads of connective tissue which hold them together---queerness, art, symmetry, mathematics, tradition, radicalism---and certain locales and themes seem to recur, even without my knowing so, like echoes of leitmotifs woven through a century.
One lens to look through the series is the progressive spinning out of Remus's station away from the center of power, into increasingly marginalized places where perhaps the iron grip of the failing Empire is more keenly felt. (Like Black Adder, in a way, if you don't think too hard!)
Though these stories were written at different times, and span different stages of even my own personal life, I decided to collect them together in recognition of their common theme, and as homage and mirror to fluorescentgrey's Empire Building series.

Summary
Here are some of the poems and songs that have passed to the Third Age, both in writing and in living words, in the House of Elrond in Imladris. These have been translated into Westron by the many folks that have lingered in that fair house, and in them is preserved the memory of the Elder Days.

Summary
Leliana detects in Solas a kindred spirit, which only makes her doubly wary. Solas works hard not to get too close to anyone, but dealing with Leliana is inescapable. He can't help but grow fond of her, she can't help but feel intrigued. In another world, perhaps they could have been friends, or even something more.

Summary
Ellana Lavellan is one of two apprentices to her clan’s Keeper, and not the most skillful of the pair. She expects to be sent away after failing to earn a place as First, but when she stumbles upon an ancient shrine to Fen’Harel and inadvertently summons the Dread Wolf himself, she finds in him a wealth of powerful, forgotten magics. He’ll teach her, if she makes a suitable offering: herself.
Ellana returns to the shrine again and again, summoning Fen’Harel to teach her more, but time works differently on the other side of the eluvian; centuries pass for him while only weeks go by for her. As she grows to know him as Solas, she discovers that the Creators are not the benevolent deities she believed them to be, and that the Dread Wolf is a man she can love.
What comfort can a mere Dalish mage offer a rebel god? More than either of them ever expected.

Summary
“Is it true?” Evelyn asked. “What Leliana said about you.”
Solas stilled; as best his network could discern, the spymaster had largely abandoned her search, considering him a loose thread, an unsolved mystery--but not a threat.
“What did she say?” he asked, stalling.
Evelyn’s full lower lip twisted; she judged him for that evasion.
“That you left because of me."
It should have been a reassuring answer. That he hated Evelyn--he imagined that much must have been obvious to anyone watching the two of them, by the end. He could obscure a great deal about himself, but he had been born in a world where there was no hiding his feelings and the spirits they engendered. No, he imagined everything he felt was carved clearly on his face for anyone with eyes to see.
“Yes,” he whispered.
