I knew this wouldn’t be easy for either of us, but sometimes you had to burn the forest floor to encourage new growth... I had at least taken that crucial first step, planting a seed of doubt in Eito’s mind over whether it was even worth clinging onto his lifelong grudge against humanity. I could already feel that things were diverting from the future where I made that promise... I just had to believe in the Eito who stood with me until the end and wanted to change—who died desperately wanting for me to understand him. The Eito in front of me now was that same person, but he also wasn’t... Even just my presence here has put something intangible in motion.

It seemed to bother Tokito that he couldn’t come up with an answer when he was asked “what our relationship was.” At the time, I thought the most fair thing was to give him a spreadsheet of possible options so that he could pick one... but even saying all of them out loud, nothing felt right. I ended up saying that “just you and me is fine.” It was fine, there didn’t need to be anything else, but... “Frustrating” wasn’t quite the word, it was more like... If I was driving and every light we came to was a yellow light, and I just had to gauge whether the right thing was to come to a sudden stop or gun through it. It seemed best to just always choose the safer option, but... More and more lately, it felt like Tokito morphed into this annoying backseat driver, shouting, “You should’ve just went for it, you totally could’ve beat the light!” This metaphor is becoming strange, I’m probably just tired...

Rean is a young detective of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide division, and a member of a specialized branch utilizing experimental new technology. He’s always been uniquely sensitive to others’ emotions—which makes him the ideal candidate for the prototype of the “VALIMAR System”, a partner program which allows him to delve into the subconscious mind of a subject as long as he maintains eye contact.
He’s proud of the work that he does... but having to internalize the emotions and motivations of scum who show no remorse has taken a mental toll on him. The nature of his job keeps him pretty busy, but he still tries to make time for friends and family... although his mental capacity for socializing has been dwindling by the day. And forget relationships... even if he wanted to give it an honest try, his heart was too muddied by his complicated situationship with someone who was admittedly pretty useful as an informant, even if he was damn annoying... it was just complicated.
[Inspired by the “AI: The Somnium Files” games. I know the concept of “AI” has become really cringe and we all hate it, so just pretend it’s the cool cyberpunk version of AI everyone imagined in the 80s and 90s lol]

Rean felt sick when Crow stabbed him in the back, he was so angry at his bold-faced lies that his time at Thors meant nothing, and his snitting words, "That Crow doesn't exist, sorry about it." It was frightening in retrospect that Rean let a person like that in, he was ashamed that he let a juvenile crush on this charmingly-eccentric second year blind him to all the signs. He wanted to yell at the Crow who betrayed him, who coldly wiped the floor with him without even breaking a sweat—but who the hell was this Crow sitting in front of him with a homemade fish burger? It was an almost cruel amalgamation of this dangerous stranger... and the Crow he thought he knew.
Crow always made fun of him for being a meddling mother hen, so he was going to meddle until it all made sense. He wouldn't give up on him—he chose to believe in the Crow who never pushed him away.
[A retelling of the Erebonian arc if Crow/Rean was canon, instead of just strongly implied lol. Filled with drama, romance, motorcycles, anachronistic slang, Gunda—I mean Divine Knight battles, and Pops' special chili sauce.]

Eito leaned in close, too close for Takumi’s comfort as the former grabbed his cheeks. There’s faint tear marks down his eyes as he whispered. “Save them this time, or I’m going to control you once more when you wake and kill you myself.”
Takumi screamed as searing hot pain went through his body. Eito faded with him, closing his eyes for what may be the last time.In the middle of his second scenario, Takumi had chosen to kill Eito instead, which lead to him sharing his consciousness. He had turned back time just a bit to spare him, and continued on with the second scenario. By the end of this timeline, Takumi was ready to die with all his friends' hopes and dreams, yet Eito was unwilling, using Shion and his own cryptoglobin to send Takumi back in time for a third giant leap.
Now, Takumi has to navigate a third scenario, overcome unbidden feelings and reunite with old friends in order to ensure the peace of both humanity and Futurans alike.Bookmarked by skeevy_nyx
