“Holy shit,” Kent whispers. He drops Jack’s face like he’s been burned.
“What?” Bittle asks. He moves closer to where Kent is motioning, reaches out to touch Jack’s forehead. Jack jerks away from his hand.
Jack’s right eyebrow is intact, missing that little scarred gap from he got from eating shit on the concrete on Rue St. Germaine.
That must have been 2009, Easter break of their draft year, because that was right about when Jack’s drinking slid from ‘concerning’ to ‘scary’ and he started doing things like taking a swing at Poulie’s older brother, slipping on ice, and busting his head open on the sidewalk.
“I think he’s—” Kent takes three wild steps backward. “I think he's eighteen.”

Roy dips his head down. He’s smiling in that way that takes up his whole face and Jamie wants to see it but Roy won’t let him. He’s weird about that sort of thing and Jamie wants to make it happen again and again and again until he’s not. It can’t be that hard; Big Bad Roy Kent is just like him—all bark. He could take Roy’s face in his hands, feel the scratch of his beard like the answer back to his own little howling, yapping, whatever it is he does and Roy would let him. Just the once, but he’d allow it and he wouldn’t hurt him for it. That much is true. It would make everything awkward after, but it would be alright. It would be good until it was over.

Neil thinks that putting Riko's biggest victim back together is the biggest fuck you they can give him. Wymack worries about this kid, who was almost one of his Foxes, rescued from the same situation his own son carries scars of. Jeremy's starting to see the depths of the cracks in Jean's soul and beginning to wonder if he hasn't already put one there.
Jean is trying his best. He's just not sure why no one thinks it's good enough. Look, he's even smiling.
Or:
"If we treat you with care," Jeremy asks, "will you believe you deserve it? Isn't that only fair?" One hand is still on his head, now shifted to the top of it and stroking with a gentleness Jean does not remember experiencing. Hands in his hair have always been to pull.
Jean is being ruled by his urges today, in a way that is truly unforgiveable, but he needs this to stop. He needs Jeremy to come closer and he needs him to go away and he needs this day to end.
"Can you tell me something about yourself?" Jeremy whispers, and his hand keeps stroking.
"I have a younger sister," he blurts.

"You know me,” Andrew says. “Do you know you, Neil?”
Neil blinks at him, empty. He doesn’t recognise his name.
“I…” Neil falters a moment, breaking his gaze, and looking down at his own body like he expects to find something else. He checks his own pulse, two fingers to the side of his wrist. Neil looks up at Andrew after a few seconds of murmuring numbers, not quite frowning but almost. “I feel gone,” he says. “Is my – am I here?”
Or Neil has a dissociative episode, and Andrew contemplates the terrifying ordeal of memory and being known and not. He also brings Neil back. That too.
