Summary
“It’s Anaxagoras,” he said slowly, enunciating each syllable like he was drilling a lesson into an inattentive class. “You missed a letter in the middle.”
“Oh, right. Got it. Sorry.”
“Please make an effort to spell my name correctly next time, Phainon.”
The grin on Phainon’s face was far too mischievous for Anaxa’s liking. “I’ll try.”
It was a lie—he did not.
Anaxa was always a bit too dependent on caffeine to get through his mornings. In the quiet ambience of his favorite coffee shop, he felt as if everything in it offered the last remnants of peace he could ever find.
But when its new barista refuses to spell his name right and shatters what little tranquility remains, he finds out that maybe some annoyances are worth indulging.

Summary
“You are an absolute dear and he lets you stick around for three years. What’s the worst that he could say?”
Phainon fidgets in his chair, remembering how sharp Anaxa’s words can be. Especially in early days of their arrangement. “Well,” he clears his throat, rubbing his face, “one time when I explored his body to find his erogenous zones, I heard him exhale. But when I asked him ‘did I get that right?’ he said, ‘the only thing you’re getting is on my nerves’.”
Awful guide on how to confess to your sugar daddy that you're in love with him, as sourced from Phainon.

Summary
“That’s not childish.” If he had a heart, he’s sure it would be pounding. “That’s the definition of peace. The soul’s greatest desire. It is never too far out of reach.”
“Isn’t it?” Phainon whispers, but his brow gentles, posture relaxing into the chilly night's air. “And what is it you desire, Anaxa?”
A touch, as the baby dromas snuggles close, and for one fleeting moment, an image crosses his thoughts. Watching the sunset, satisfied from a day fulfilled by the gentle touch of companionship and a homecooked meal. They'd have a home, together.
“Peace,” Anaxa says eventually. “I, too, desire peace.”
Anaxagoras has fifteen days left to alter the course of Amphoreus' history for good, and he's resigned every hour to it wreathed in the slow and agonizing deterioration of a body that is already dead. The plan was to spend the brunt of it alone, in the solitary halls of his quarters.
The plan did not include Phainon, who shows up at his door in the middle of the night, asking for a place to stay.
or: Anaxa is dying. Phainon disagrees.

Summary
“You’re right, as always, Teacher,” he said. His voice was hardly above the rustle of the leaves in the wind. “I’m a disappointment. I always have been. I’ve never measured up to what others wanted of me, to what I had to be, once. Not once have I ever been good enough.”
He leaned closer, and his breath was a light laugh on Anaxagoras’ ear. “I’ve decided. I decided when I saw you again. I don’t care if I’m a disappointment. I don’t care if I throw away the whole world. I just need you to pat my head again, and say words that make me feel okay.”
