Summary
“What do you remember about getting shot?”
He lies then. He's lied a lot in his life; lied to Buck — only once, when it’s directly, when it’s not a thousand little fibs my omission. This is that one time.
“I remember falling. Then everything got dark. Then nothing. Then I woke up at the hospital.”
“And that was it?”
No. No, it wasn’t.
“That was it.”
I remember falling.
He remembers.
He remembers that he started falling long before the bullet got loaded.

Summary
Ten finally learns. The hub is aflame around him. There is a woman stripped of her humanity hunting him. Taeyong is dying in his arms. He doesn’t know if the others are alive. There is a dead body in the basement. Ten waits to die, as well, because maybe he’ll know better when he comes back this time. He wishes more than ever for that horrid screeching engine sound and wind that smells of time and fire; but it doesn’t come. Red lights flash and shriek. He feels helpless, powerless. At the back of his mind, in numbness, he thinks—I’ve never been killed by a Cyberman; wonder if it’ll hurt as much as a Dalek beam.
Everyone he has ever loved disappears.

Summary
“...And when I got there, all there was--was sand and blood.”
He sounds angry now, righteous, and there is agony that Taeyong glimpses in his eyes. And, for a moment, that look again, that unidentified emotion deep in them, something so uniquely in response to Taeyong, that he is unable to step away nor speak.
Taeyong didn’t know. Didn’t know that that was the story of Ten’s brush with Hamunaptra, that war led him to the city that might as well have become his burial ground. How come he didn’t ask? How come Taeyong trusted this man on nothing but a few sentences? How come he never needed to know more?
And how come Ten even agreed to return to the place that haunts him so?

Old-as-life cliche—Mark fell first, Johnny fell harder, and the rest was history; but before that, there was a story.

Summary
It is tradition.
It is how it’s done; how it has been done from the dawn of time, since the first people wrangled the black curse that the entities were and discovered a way to keep them contained. Never gone, for it is impossible, but jailed and locked; restrained enough that they do not finish the damage they have already done, the damage seen still, all around them, in harsh colds and excruciating heat, barren land and polluted water, poisonous air and thin wood.

Summary
Johnny can't look at Mark's wrist from this angle—only the flush of his face, the sweat on his forehead, plush lips leaving Johnny feeling so hot he could burst—but it doesn't matter. He glances at his own wrist again. Glowing, his expiration date stares back at him.
