At the request, Sunghoon frowns, not quite pleased. He moves away – as far as he could while still in Heeseung’s arms. “No. I already gave you one just now.”
It’s Heeseung’s turn to frown, his lips moving forward into a pout in an attempt to look more pitiful. “Why? But it’s Appa’s birthday, why won’t you give Appa another kiss?”
Narrowing his eyes, Sunghoon looks at him lazily. “Appa’s smelly.”

Jay groans. “This is hysterical. You don’t even wanna hang out with him because he’s Jake’s boyfriend. You wanna hang out with him because he’s pretty.”
Sunghoon is too busy fussing with Jay about what he can and can’t do, failing to notice Heeseung immediately lighting up and Jake face palming once again.
“You think I’m pretty?” Heeseung asks in awe.
“Darling,” Jake whines, now completely facing Heeseung. “Darling, I call you pretty all the time.”
“But Sunghoonie is cute. He’s like a baby.” Heeseung puffs his cheeks in annoyance, glancing between his boyfriend and Sunghoon. “When babies say you’re pretty, don’t you feel flattered?”
“But Sunghoon isn’t a baby,” Jake wails. “He’s like twenty years old!”
Sunghoon thinks Heeseung is really pretty. Heeseung thinks Sunghoon is very cute. Jay and Jake absolutely hate where this is going.

And as Jake watches the scene playing in front of him, a myriad of thoughts wash over him.
First of all, why is this snotty freshman flirting with Sunghoon? Secondly, how dare this snotty freshman flirt with Sunghoon? He still couldn’t believe that this random freshman had the guts to flirt with Sunghoon in front of him. Sunghoon giving his full attention to this freshman doesn’t help his bubbling jealousy because he should be the one giving out these smooth, flirty lines to Sunghoon and making him smile and giggle shyly, not this random nobody.
Wait.
Jake is jealous.
Oh god. Jake is so, so screwed.

If he hadn’t run away, would things have gotten the chance to change? He lingers on this thought longer than the others, his fingers tapping a steady rhythm against the floorboard beneath his head. It’s the same tune they’d sing on the porch when days went by slowly.
If things had changed, how much could that have accomplished, really? They could welcome Sunghoon in, treat him the same way, but they could only get so far. The moon would rise and Sunghoon’s body would ache. The carnal need to feast would turn into the pained desire to hunt. Eventually something would have to give, wouldn’t it?
But it’s that— that small scintilla of doubt— that keeps his fingers tapping.
