    Summary

The boy was a slip of a thing, half-starved with hungry eyes. His hair was long and dark, his clothes threadbare but neat. He looked about Ike’s age, but he spoke like a scholar, his words clipped and sharply enunciated.

It was the mark, though, that drew Greil’s attention. It had been almost fifteen years, but he still recognized it. The last time he’d seen it, the boy had been an infant.

The boy looked nothing like his father. He had his mother’s wary eyes.

    --

Greil knows everything. It changes nothing.

    Bookmarker's Notes

The breeze tossed his long hair and his fluttering sleeves, and he looked a little hesitant, as if he was unsure if he was intruding. As if there was any place in Ike’s life where Soren’s presence could possibly be unwelcome.

    Summary

Claude von Riegan is a schemer. But he is also a tactician. A very bored tactician, surrounded by a dozen Emblems who would rather hit things with sharp sticks than plan clever strategies.

So when he learns of a new freshly recruited Emblem of Acumen, the Radiant Strategist, from Emblem Ike's very own reality...all he can say is he's intrigued. And what better way to test the strategies of a fellow tactician than a friendly game of chess?

The problem: Emblem Soren is not the social type, and getting him to agree to a game of chess will be tricky.

But then again, Claude's never met a challenge he can't win.

“Next inter-Emblem challenge is an arm wrestling match between you and him,” Claude mutters, jerking a thumb over his shoulder at the departing Ike. “If I still had a spine, I’m pretty sure it’d be broken. Ow.”

“Many victories come with painful prices,” Teach says sagely.

“Have you killed before,” you clarify. “Humans, not animals.”

It’s the one who Sir Clive wanted to make commander- Alm- who answers first. “Yes. On the way here. Bandits are everywhere now, y’know?”

She glanced across the campfire, where Kagetsu waved to her with a ridiculous smile on his face. How could he be so cheerful given the current situation?

    Summary

“Anytime you need me, you hear? Just call. Send a bird and I’ll come.” His voice is unusually thick, and he turns his face aside to cough. There’s a gleam in his eye that Celica knows is not moonlight, or torchlight. “I’d come from my grave if you called me, lass.”

Even as she says it she’s aware of the weight of her mother’s circlet on her head—its dangling moonstone, its delicate, web-thin chains.
