Éponine hadn't even known she was in love with Cosette. How could she have? When she looked at Marius she'd felt a longing so strong she'd assumed it was him she longed for; now she knew that longing was in fact jealousy, that everytime she looked at him she'd really been looking at Cosette on his arm, Cosette by his side, Cosette giving him one of those sweet smiles... and that what Éponine wanted most of all was Cosette's attention bestowed upon her instead.
Or, a fic in which Éponine's life—which had been going relatively well for once—becomes infinitely more complicated the night a siren attacks the crew of the Musain.

Summary
The thing about quick, violent deaths is they very often do not give you the time to register your fate before your vision goes dark. So when he took a single gasping breath full of stale air smelling of rot, Feuilly did not immediately know where he was. In fact, it took him almost two full panic filled minutes to feel around the wooden perimeter of the coffin and understand the gravity of his situation.
Or: Everything is the same, but Feuilly is a vampire.
