Summary
Ritsu stands on the edge of the bridge, leaning into the guard rail as he watches the river rushing below. It’s higher than normal because of the recent rain and thick with pollution. At his back, the last of the traffic from rush hour bumps noisily down the road, mucking up the air with exhaust and blaring horns.
Sometimes, Ritsu wishes everything would just stop.
(Takes place during and after the events of Into the Lagoon. I suggest reading that one first.)

Summary
Shigeo really, truly did not like a single thing about violence.
He did not like how loud people got or how their faces twisted up in ugly rage or fear. He did not like the sound of bones breaking or the color of blood spilling across the street. A fight was like looking through a gruesome kaleidoscope - dizzying and overwhelming.
Shigeo, however, learned that violence was necessary to have peace.

Summary
If a year and a half of riding the bench has taught Koushi anything, it’s that he can shove as many of his own feelings down as he likes if he focuses on everything else but what’s going on inside him.
Emotions like these are strange and unpredictable and downright unnecessary now that the worst of things has passed, but if he can just keep himself busy enough, pay those emotions no mind, then surely they’ll go away on their own.
(Or, all the times Koushi’s past comes back to haunt him, and the one time it doesn’t.)
