i am a huge sucker for found family stories
the hearth storyline in particular and its fallout kind of made me cry lots so there's that too
but tl;dr is tbate rewrite, starring the author's self-insert (sort of, toren becomes his own character). many non-characters from the original get really fleshed out too - and just, i think DN captures that lightning in a bottle vol. 8-9 got while also just improving on the original story as a whole in spades. specifically character relationships or lack thereof, and just making the world a believable setting and touching parts the original never got to. it's a really cool premise and i'm kind of sad that it never finished but i liked it nonetheless

Summary
When a normal woman who enjoys writing fanfiction somehow gains the attention of the Chaos Gods, she is pulled into the Warhammer 40k universe. She embarks on a quest with her new friends to discover the secrets of the Warp itself so that she may return home. This is an exercise in creativity and an epic "weak to strong" tale as a possible new God-Empress of Mankind navigates her uncertain future in a frightening new reality. This is a huge, epic-length "hero's journey" adventure fic involving decidedly non-heroic people.
This is primarily a Warhammer 40k "isekai" fic embellished with elements taken from the general Oz universe with special attention to "The Wizard of Oz" (1939 film), and "Return to Oz" (1985 film). Knowledge of the Oz universe and L. Frank Baum's literary work is not required to enjoy this story, but it certainly makes it fun. I try to gently introduce Warhammer 40k lore as I go along for anyone who isn't very familiar with that universe. I try to update at least a few times a month.

I thought the ending was a little abrupt and didn't resolve enough of the character arcs, so I started imagining how things would develop for some of the more interesting minor characters. One thing led to another and now I've got this fic in my head.

MoL's epilogue really frustrated me in that it left out a couple of its characters entirely (specifically taiven & kirielle); it was a little *too* open-ended, so this fic scratched an itch for me
the taiven-bashing is a little on the nose (she's my favourite character in the original so yes, i'm biased) but i liked it overall. zorian is... way overpowered for my liking too but it nails the writing style and feel for the world that the original had. byfar what i liked the most about MoL was its big cast of memorable supporting characters that actually had distinct personalities and were interesting in themselves, beyond the cliche 'i-must-praise-main-character-for-their-sheer-awesomeness' shtick present in most progression fantasy. said characters live in a world i can actually imagine. but this feels like a genuine continuation of MoL and i really liked it
