The first thing Buck notices when he wakes up is the cards on the table. It shouldn’t be, his entire family is here – Bobby and Athena, Maddie, Chim, even his parents – but it’s the first thing his half-conscious brain latches on to. Even as the tube is pulled out of his throat and he’s actively choking and there’s a hand latching onto his, it’s all that his mind can focus on; the cards.
Look at us, they taunt, this is everyone that has ever loved you. And so he falls asleep to the sight of the cards, and that spiteful echo; this is everyone that has ever loved him, they can all fit into one room.Or:

Yang’s panicking behind him. She’s been panicking ever since that morning, when he had slipped a knife from the kitchen table into his pocket. She had looked at him, eyes wide, but said nothing, just like he knew she would. Yin hadn’t noticed anything, or maybe he had, but it doesn’t really matter now.
Blood seeps onto the floor; knife still embedded in Yin’s back.
“He’s dead,” Yang whispers, fingers still taking his pulse, “He’s dead.”

Summary
His mind shifted through the facts with a quiet sort of detachment. Thirteen-year-old, born wolf, entire family killed by hunters, rescued running away from the scene. The police had tried to track him down, believing he was involved and the first realisation Theo had at that was about how easy it would be to manipulate the boy. How weak the thing must be after all he had gone through.
Then he had met Alec, and realised he was anything but weak. Alec didn’t bother to bite his tongue, spat words out with a familiar sort of fury at everyone who got close to him. He turned his grief into anger in a way Theo approved of, and everyone else turned away from. There was no room for rage when people were disappearing. It only turned Alec into a better target.

Eddie asks Buck to marry him two hours into a twenty-four shift on a pretty normal Tuesday and not in so many words, or any at all. He steals Buck from the loft and finds a secluded corner for them to talk, and Buck listens, like he always does.
“I told Chris about my will – it’s fine, he’s fine with it, happy even – and he’s got some concerns. No, I just said that he’s fine with – Buck.” Buck takes a breath, and then just listens. “He knows about the will, he’s fine with it. He’s just worried about the logistics of it all, how he’ll go to you and not his grandparents.”
Buck, still slightly nervous, nods, “Is there anything we can do about it?”
Eddie pauses for a breath, “Well...”
