Summary
When Hannibal drove to Wills house he had expected barking. He'd expected a pack of dogs to run up to him and sniff him, waiting expectantly for a sausage.
So when he turned up to the doors being locked, and dogs barking, it was nothing out the ordinary. When Will didn't come out he'd assumed he was busy, fishing, sleeping or just feeling antisocial.
So he turned around and walked back to his car, well he was about to. That was until the dogs never came the door. That was until he listened closer. Those barks weren't aimed at him. There was something inside the house. The barks weren't territorial, or angry, they were desperate and sad. They were whines and crys, accompanied by hurried scratches.
Everything clicked into place when Hannibal smelt the familiar metallic stench of blood.
Will was in danger.
Or
Will's suicide attempt is rudely interrupted by his pack of dogs and his psychiatrist.

Summary
Fate pulls together a 20 year old Will Graham and a 26 year old Hannibal Lecter to each other over and over again.
Will works the night shift in a 24 hour coffee shop, Hannibal is a medical student with 2 years left of his course. They become close friends, opening up to each other. Filling out that empty space both individuals have felt their entire life.
Yet, they're forced to part after Hannibal moves away to pursue his dream of becoming a surgeon.
18 years later, special agent Will Graham is called in to Agent Crawford's office on a miserable afternoon. What will happen when the only person who has ever been able to make cold, closed off Will Graham smile and open up is seen, sitting in Jack Crawford's office. And how Will react when he founds out said person is his new psychiatrist. Will Hannibal even recognise him now? Does he even want to recognise him for that matter?

Will Graham has a soft spot for strays. That apparently extends to lost teenage girls he stumbles across in the woods. She might not talk much, but Will doesn't demand much from company, rare as it is. He's just killing time while he waits for Hannibal to visit again.
