He glanced back up to her face, her blue eyes wide and shiny, her cheeks flushed despite the poor evening lighting, her lips pink and swollen due to worrying them between her teeth. Colin felt like he could barely breathe. Suddenly, she was tempting him in a way he had been tempted by other women. It was the same feeling he got when he met a beautiful woman at a bar or when meeting up with a tinder date.
But this was different, this was Penelope.
“I don’t ignore you on purpose,” he said softly, his voice a bit lower than he expected. Her entire presence was confusing him.
“You have a funny way of showing it.” She leaned her back against the tree, letting out a sigh and pressing her head against the trunk. He was absolutely done for. The way her neck extended, the expanse of her throat just begging for his lips. Her chest still heaving, each inhalation thrusting her breast up where the moonlight was so helpfully casting shadows in all the right dips and bulges, making her look like a siren.

“I am already aware of that. Colin. And yes, perhaps some members were paying more attention to one of the other pairings on the dance floor.” Her voice sounded a tad foreign to her own ears, dark and fed up. “But not all. Some were staring specifically at us. Fife was staring at us.”
“Is that what this is about?” He questioned. “Who the bloody hell cares what Fife of all people thinks?”
“You do, Colin!” The words burst out of her. “You must care what he thinks!”
“Why on earth would you say that?” His brows furrowed.
Penelope could not say which it was, the genuine confusion in Colin’s voice or the fact that he dared utter the question in the first place, but she felt a fire light within her. Her anger was bright and burning. She was completely and entirely incensed.
And the fault lay with Colin.
“Tell me, Colin,” she began, hating the way her voice gave away her every emotion, “if Fife were to ask you if you were courting me tonight, what would you say?”
Colin and Pen dance. Fife laughs. It brings up bad memories.

Colin, after having returned from his trip, is taken aback by a cold and indifferent Penelope. In an attempt to win her friendship back, he offers to help her find eligible suitors. But will it be enough if only their broken friendship gets mended? And why does Penelope feel her resolve weaken the more time she spends with Colin?
This story picks up where Season 2 Ep 8 of the TV series left off and incorporates elements of season 3. It is very angsty as well as a slow burn (because I‘m as much of a sadist as Shonda Rhimes) so be warned.- Language:
