In-ho let the question soak into him. He didn’t know why he helped. He knew he didn’t want this man to destroy his life over debt, he had already watched it ruin so many others. He shouldn’t have interjected, but he did. This man was probably going to die soon regardless of In-ho’s efforts, so why help at all?
One year after winning his games and losing everything that mattered, In-ho doesn’t know why he chose to help a stranger in debt. After that night, he doesn’t know why this new love isn’t enough to keep him from returning to the place that broke him.

Something in Steve's brain clicked and he realized where he was: in the woods, a deer carcass underneath him, its meat and blood in his stomach and all over his face. He looked up at Eddie, lip threatening to wobble, “How are you here? What just happened?”
Eddie knelt down and sat next to Steve, grabbing the boy into his arms as he stared at the dead deer, Eddie's own stomach beginning to grumble to his displeasure.
