Summary
It wasn't like you were stupid. No, you dotted your i's and crossed your t's and did all the shit that a citizen of a shit hole like Gotham City did. You carried a taser, kept out of alleys, travelled with a companion.
And it had kept you (relatively) untraumatized for the entirety of the 21 years of your existence. Sure, you'd seen some gruesome things, but that was normal. You weren't the type that made a stupid decision and got screwed over. You were smart.
Of course, that flew out the window with the goddamn Red Hood of all people. You had to be stupid with him.

Summary
Hawke makes it out of the fade but she and Varric have a fight of epic proportions that leaves them on shaky ground after the months he spent greiving her presumed death. Hawke has to figure out if she can do more than throw herself into danger, and Varric realizes he's been lying to himself for a long time.
**This is the first time I've written anything over 5k words and it was a serious challenge. It's not perfect, but I had a lot of fun! It's self indulgent, and not too deep, so don't let the "grief" tag throw you off too much. There's definitley a happy ending here.

Summary
He hears Hawke's voice float from across the room long before he sees her. There's someone from the Merchant's Guild trying to discuss some matter that Varric's sure is very important to him, but he's happier scanning the room to find her. It doesn't take too long, he finds Meredith and follows her glare, sure enough it ends on Hawke surrounded by some fawning nobles. Despite Hawke's easy smile Varric can't miss the slight twitch of her brow, the telltale sign that she's trying to find an out. Luckily for her he's always happy to help a damsel in distress.
